The CSF Cooling 911 Backdate - Road to SEMA 2021*
We've been teasing it on our social media, but CSF is excited to now officially announce our new project car for 2021, to debut at SEMA in November – the #CSF911
https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...f3357a2548.jpg The Project In an effort to showcase CSF’s expanding range of Porsche air-cooled oil coolers + continuing our deep passion for Porsche project cars, the owner of CSF has decided to throw his hat in the ring for the best Porsche build of the year. Coming off his 1,000whp 1/2 mile 991 Turbo S, and his RUF conversion 996 RTurbo, Ravi Dolwani, owner of CSF, has decided to go back through the pages of Porsche history with this unique 911 backdate – 73 RSR style with a modern twist. Major Partners SV Auto/Simo Veharanta – svauto.com Expert Porsche builder, often found in the pages of Excellence magazine and a pedigree stemming from his deep connection with good friend Alof Ruf from Germany. Jon Sibal – jobsibal.com Famous automotive designer responsible for designing many award-winning vehicles throughout the world. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...793d362ffc.jpg Simo from SV Auto doing a "Zoom" design meeting with Jon Sibal Supporting Partners KW Suspension Rywire.com Stoptech Racing Tarrett Engineering ERP Sparco Chasing Js Streetfighter LA Rogelio’s Upholstery Michelin Tires Rotiform Wheels BMRS Plumbing Kinsler Fuel Injection Sachs Performance WebCams Prato Motorwerks And lastly but not least, SSF European Auto Parts Distribution Company, who has come on board to help with product support and sourcing all of the parts needed for this Porsche restoration project during the challenges of the pandemic that we’re all going through. The Plan Simo decided to take on building the CSF911 under one condition–the design process would be a mutual collaboration between himself and owner of CSF, with the ultimate goal of building the most fascinating Porsche 911 backdate ever to be created. A perfect blend of classic style, inspired by early 1970s RSR race cars of the past, mixed with materials, technology, and innovation from 2021. The beginning of this journey started on Janaury 1st, 2021 with the enlistment of famous automotive designer Jon Sibal, brought on as the critical third partner to kick off the design–now being used as the roadmap by SV Auto to bring this vision to reality. On January 4th, the team at SV Auto started from scratch and began tearing down a 1982 911SC to bare metal. No details will be overlooked, no corners will be cut. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...e8869f2b89.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...d95b9b247f.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...2f0727cabf.jpg We’ll be diving into the details of the 3.9-liter, naturally aspirated, 400+ horsepower custom-built engine and drivetrain sourced from SSF’s complete catalog of Porsche OEM and high-performance parts. We are using parts from the top manufacturers in the world including pistons from Mahle Motorsports, a modified G50 transmission from Patrick Motorsportswith a shortened bellhousing to fit the G-body Porsche 911, a high-performance Sachs Motorsports Clutch, and all the way up into the cabin with a CAE Billet Shifter, just received from the UK. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...32eb4a349b.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...815eef04f3.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...7af3b86a4b.jpg |
Should be an awesome build, looking forward to seeing it take shape.

Really cool. Is that a reverse lockout on the shifter?

Second Week of January
First things first – we had to make a chassis jig to move the car around the shop and also to transport to the body shop. This jig was built in-house by Tito, in-house fabricator for SV Auto. Really nicely done with great welding and high-quality casters. https://csfrace.com/wp-content/uploa...8440862939.jpg Fourth Week of January Originally, the design plan for the car was to import the first 4Laws full carbon fiber shell into the U.S. I saw the kit on display for the first time at Toyko Auto Salon back in January 2020. We explored this option along with both Simo from SV Auto and Jon Sibal for about three weeks, with many hours invested along with the companies new U.S. distributor and 4Laws from Japan. https://csfrace.com/wp-content/uploa...8440901393.jpghttps://csfrace.com/wp-content/uploa...8440894165.jpghttps://csfrace.com/wp-content/uploa...8440887799.jpg After meeting with their distributor in person, and understanding more about the actual body kit as well as considering lead times and possible issues of delivery because of the pandemic, we graciously opted out of this concept and decided to pursue something drastically different that has never been done before. https://csfrace.com/wp-content/uploa...440876786.jpeg Full design booklets professionally printed on high-quality paper/ink, including clay models as well as full-color digital renderings by Jon Sibal. |
After changing directions from the 4Laws Kit, we decided to make an all-metal wide body RSR style backdate. No fiberglass at all, complete with an aluminum hood, hand-formed steel fenders, and a custom 1 of 1 hand-formed duckbill and decklid.
https://csfrace.com/wp-content/uploa...217988972.jpeg Custom steel rear bumper. Because of this, we transitioned from the red ’79 SC you saw in our original post, to this ’82 SC which had already had its fenders and quarter panels complete. https://csfrace.com/wp-content/uploa...534-scaled.jpg https://csfrace.com/wp-content/uploa...536-scaled.jpg https://csfrace.com/wp-content/uploa...9217978875.jpg https://csfrace.com/wp-content/uploa...217997230.jpeg Aluminum hood, no fiberglass. We have a very special gas tank and cap design, which we’ll be sharing with you soon. https://csfrace.com/wp-content/uploa...9218031764.png 80 lbs. of hardware for the vehicle, ready to go. https://csfrace.com/wp-content/uploa...9218040933.jpg All the exterior trim, sandblasted and ready for coating. To stay true of the ethos of the car, using modern technology and modern materials, we decided to finish the trim in a very unique cerakote finish. https://csfrace.com/wp-content/uploa...9218047428.jpg |
Some updates from over the weekend, continuing with our theme of using modern technology and materials.
Check out these anodized pieces that we just got back. This finish is “titanium anodized” and its a custom finish that we are having made for us locally. https://csfrace.com/wp-content/uploa...9481336589.jpg https://csfrace.com/wp-content/uploa...9481327383.jpg These are 6 Piston StopTech Billet Calipers, part of their “Level 3 Street Kit.” You can read more on them here: https://motoiq.com/stoptech-brake-options-for-early-porsche-911/ https://csfrace.com/wp-content/uploa...9481305713.jpg Billet valve covers from Tarett Engineering, back from getting anodized. https://csfrace.com/wp-content/uploa...9481312753.jpg Close-up of the differences between two of the different finishes and processes that we have as part of the design of the car. The cerakote door handle vs. the anodized valve cover. |
WOW!!!! Subscribed. Can't wait to see the engine. Can you tell us where this is happening? I didn't read the entire thread.

We just got our exhaust headers back from Hytech. This brand may not be as well known as others, but rest assured these are the absolute best headers you can buy for 911s. These headers make the most power and we’re excited to have these as part of our engine package. |
Are those bulges anti-reversion chambers?
|
Yes they are. John makes REALLY nice headers that make power. My motor was the mock-up motor for his air cooled headers and he also makes them for GT3s.
His GT3 setup was worth 10hp+ over the factory M&M RSR headers on PMNA’s engine dyno in back to back testing when I used to be involved with such things on a customers Grand Am spec 4.0L 997 engine. Steve Wong can tell you what they are worth HP wise on a stock 3.2L. |
