AC upgrade

Just curios on members opinion. I have an 89 930 80k miles. Super nice car. I keep battling ac issues. I live in Miami so it can be used year around.

To update the stock system is like close to 4k. The electronic Ac is not much more. Will this effect the value going to electric, since 89 are one off cars with the g50-50.

Thanks

Larry

If you decide to go with the UK electric AC you could retain stock AC components for any future sale.

I did a Griffiths upgrade. New hoses, compressor, evaporator, front condenser and an additional condenser in the rear wheel well. I maintained r12 Freon. I live in St Pete Fl and my a/c works like a modern a/c. I highly recommend it, not cheap but worth it. If you don’t have r12 Freon (most people don’t) think about 2 condensers in the rear wheel well.

I'd say that for similar money, you've gotta go with an upgraded stock system on an '89. Personally, I wouldn't add any condensers (although, I would go with the upgraded front condenser as it's a stealth mod). This likely means it still wouldn't be a year round car, but it would preserve originality(ish) and get you a couple more months per year of usability than you currently have.

You could also consider the lightest 3M Crystalline tint, including the windshield, and a Covercraft sunshade.

Mayo put griffiths with the 2 condenser rear wheel well setup and it works great. I consider it an investment that I’ll see a return on some day.

I've installed two different Griffiths' systems. A good working AC system adds value to our cars.

82 911SC Coupe, RHD
This car was in Malaysia with the dual Griffiths rear fender condensers, evaporator, hoses and front Desert Duty front condenser. The system worked well.

87 911 Carrera Coupe
For this one I used a Griffiths reliability upgrade with a RetroAir rear condenser and condenser/evaporator blowers. It works great though I have balance issues with the RetroAir evaporator blower. I've had 55F vent temperatures in 105F outside air temperature.

For your 930 Griffiths has newer parallel flow condensers for the front and rear of the car. These may make fender condensers unnecessary.

50F vents in 105F with just a single condenser...

We now do a dual condenser system as well.

A/C upgrade for our '86 911.

1. Removed all of the original factory A/C components.

2. Flushed both condensers, and evaporator.

3. Replaced the factory dryer with a Pro-Cooler.

4. Replaced the factory evaporator with Rennaire unit.

5. Constructed/replaced all hoses, fittings and clamps.

6. Installed new compressor.
^^^^^
All of the above took about a week.

I documented the work with lots of pics.

Results:

The one of the keys to optimum performance is the charging.

I used "Charley Cool Automotive".

I have the low/high side numbers "somewhere....

With the temp setting on the fourth increment,
and the fan set to medium, on a 90f/80% humidity
day, we are able to maintain a consistent 44f output
freeway driving without any sign of freeze-up.

Other than the Pro Cooler, and the Renaire evaporator,
the A/C is completely stock.

Good luck,

pm me as needed.

Best,

Gerry

That's great Jonny H. When I did my AC your company did not offer the Electric AC system. I did go OCD for the evacuation of my system.

Classic Retrofit has some great products and I appreciate your support of our cars.

Edit
This mod was worth every penny when my wife said "I'm cold."
