964 Turbo brakes...
I posted this to the 964 forum as well, so forgive me if you feel you're seeing double...
![]() Will the brakes (calipers and rotors - the whole shootin' match) retrofit to the later ('89) 911 struts? Is there any sort of adapter kit or anything? I'm building a 914 race car that will have the late 911 front suspension and I'm wondering if I can use the '91 turbo brakes I've got in the garage. Those things are bigger than the pizza we had for dinner last night! Any info appreciated... Thanks! Mike Mugsxr4@pacbell.net

Mattias did this for our project-car and he used 993TT calipers and 964T rotors on SC struts. All that is needed is small billet-aluminium adapter to mount calipers and adapter for rotor itself.

The short answer is no.
The long answer is the front calipers can be used if you get a readily available caliper adaptor as pictured by beepbeep Unfortunately the 964 rotors have the wrong o/s(though a recent post has me thinking that perhaps they can be adapted w/ some work) In any event a better solution is some 2 piece rotors that can be purchased from any # of sources. They are lighter and can be either floating for track use(why else do this?) or non floating. There are 2 diffrent front 965 calipers the smaller is the same as 993 used in the front and the larger are Big Reds. The 993 calipers can be used with either a 304x32mm rotor or a 322x32mm rotor, the Big Reds due to their additional height need 322x32mm rotors. To match either of these front calipers you can modify the 965 rear caliper in one of 2 ways. The first is to relocate the 94mm axial mounting holes to 3" for use with 2 309x28mm 930 rear rotor. This method retains the stock parking brake. The other method is to have th 965 rears machined into radial mounts like the front. This method usually uses a 322x28mm rear rotor which does not have provision for a parking brake. The entire front kit is available w/ Big Reds, 322x32mm floating rotors, hard lines and hardware for ~$1800 the rear is a DIY for method 1 and another $1800 or so for method 2

The front rotors are the 2 piece items to which I referred above, they are Colemans(I believe) not stock 965. The rears are modified as I described above in method 2 but he has succeeded in keeping the 309x28mm 930 rear rotors(and parking brake)please note that I said the usual rotor is 322x28 not the only possible rotor. If you are going to use the 930 rotors method 1 is far simpler and more easily accomplished.
as noted above the tab is ~$3500

Are you referring to this kit?
VCI's complete brake kit based on the 964 front and rear calipers. This kit and mods came about based on YOUR requests to make it happen. These calipers are readily available used at very reasonable prices. We take the hassle out of getting them onto your 911 or 914. Front is a 28mm x 299mm rotors off the 86' 944 Turbo. The Caliper off the 964/944T has 36/42mm differential bore pistons. The calipers are modified by machining to make it "radial" mount, then an adapter is fabricated to make it work properley with the 86' 944 Turbo rotor pictured. There is also a small wheel bearing spacer that is included to space the whole hub/rotor assembly out to clear the lower control-arm. Rear is a 24mm x 289mm (911) or 299mm (914) rotor. Please be aware that we have modified these as extensively as possible, but there is still some pad "overhang" that needs to be dealt with by the user. Easiest solution is to modify the pad. VCI-9675 964 Kit - $ 1695.00 (as pictured - customer suppies the calipers) Modify Front pair of calipers w/adapters - $550.00 Modify Rear pair of calipers w/adapters - $500.00 Wheel bearing spacers - $50.00 pair Rotor Package F/R - $360.00 Mercedes master cylinder - early non-boosted cars - $179.00 Contacting us: e-mail VCI Call Toll Free: 800-845-5948 Local: 973-366-6577 copyright ©2000-2002 Vehicle Craft Inc. I thought the above kit I mentioned was what Mike might be looking for.
I bought the 930 kit from VCI a few years back for my '73 targa and it was around $3400.
