I got a "quickfix" bushing for my 911 from Pelican. The steering wheel bushing is worn out. I can't figure out how this thing goes in there.
![]() It slips over the splines but behind that the gap looks too big for this to do any good? Also is the part I am pointing at the bushing? Does this "Quickfix" wedge under that? Help I am confused. ![]() ![]()

Slide it right over the steering spline. If it is a little tight, use a socket large enough to push it in. Your stock plastic bushing is gone. This will help. I have a homemade plastic bushing I improvised a while back, th metal one is on my shelf until I get to it.

It slides over the spline but then it butts up against that shoulder. What is that shoulder? It seems pretty permanant? The quickfix definitely won't go over the shoulder so where can it go?

When I took my steering wheel off, the shaft wobbled around real easily. Putting that bushing in there takes up the slack. That bushing should fit against the shoulder. Does it sit loose in the opening? try to move the shaft up and down with the bushing in. I actually made my homemade bushing out of a plastic cap from a spray can, the smaller type cap that just covers the middle. It works OK but I bought the one you have cause I figured it would take up the slack better and be less likely to let the wheel move.

That bushing didn't work on my car either. But then I noticed that I forgot to transfer some parts from my old steering wheel to the new one. Does your steering wheel have a spring around the shaft? Does it also have a smaller version of the bearing that you bought? I am trying to find a digital camera so I can post some pictures.

No spring or smaller bushing. I took off the nut pulled the MOMO adapter and that is what is left. I tried to put the quickfix in both ways and crank down. I just don't see this working. So what is plan "B"?

Dose anyone know what parts I am missing? Or have dimensions to make the parts? I don't know what to make because I don't know what I need?

Shawn, I just looked at the gap that was causing the wobble and tried to find something in my garage that I could fill it with. The lid from the WD-40 can, (small version) looked like it would work. I split it lengthwise and cut the solid end off, then filled the space with it. If you have a Performance Catalog (ugh!), look at the budhing they sell on the same page as the metal one you bought. Try to find something close to that. I'm not certain but it almost looks like the metal one is made to go somewhere else, not to replace the plasic piece that breaks away from the OEM bearing. Anyone know?

That bushing is for later cars, won't work on early ones. Different bearing setup.
Early bearing replacement part is about $170.00(!) - and I don't think it would fix the play I was experiencing. By bearing worked ok - just had a slight gap between the Momo adapter. I wrapped my Momo collar with electrical tape and re installed. Worked fine, but I suspect it won't last very long. I like the spray can lid idea.

There are way too many of these, "Sorry, no one makes one for your car" or "It's $1.98 for every car except yours. For yours it's $895, plus a core charge" issues with old 911s. ![]() |

Someone shoulda told you the "fix" is for 74 and later cars. You're basically screwed for a new bearing ( $) on the older cars. I remember Mike Piera from Rennlist ( "AnalogMike" ??) faced this problem. Check the Rennlist archives and his name.

Just talked to Pelican. $186!!! for the bushing. Available only from Porsche. Electrical tape it is...

I used vinyl - non cloth tape and wrapped over the front edge so it woudln't scrunch back when pressed on.
I would try the cut small spray can lid around the adapter collar. This may be more "permanent". One poster (Wolfturbo I believe) said he flipped his adapter so the turn signal cancel flange was on the opposite side, this took care of his play. Didn't work for me though - although there was some improvement.

You said you did not have the spring - you need the spring to load the bearing or you will have play. The bearing will feel loose (even if it is good) if the inner race is not pushed down by the spring.
