83 911sc door closing issues, lock mechanism.
I'm having some issues with my 911 and getting the door mechanism to engage when I close it. Its hit or miss and I have to open and close the lock mechanism on the side of the door by hand, sometimes more than once to get it to engage. Which requires a bit of slam and some upward force that is easy to do from outside the vehicle but harder to do from inside. Has anyone ever encountered this, it wasn't happening for the last 5 or 6 months, it just started about a month ago. Anything that I can adjust to fix this issue or any idea what could be broken? when the door is closed the locks work fine, keys work fine, its just closing the door that is inconsistently working. Any help the 911 hive mind can give would be appreciated.

I just recently got all my latches and strikers back from electroplating (TRU-6) and they were very stiff. I soaked them overnight in zep + Teflon and now they work awesome. I recommend you remove your door panels and spray your latches with a high quality penetrating oil .

went thru this before and solved it by lubricating all moving parts behind the door card related to the latch and opening mechanisms. Just like Harpo suggests.

What everyone has said above - over time you are going to need to pull apart and rebuild / relube bits like this, especially when your car tells you by making you slam the door! The plus is that you will have access to the scissor joints on your regulator - remove old grease and replace with new. While you are in there, vacuum the bottom of the door and make sure the clear plastic sheet is in good nick.
I actually removed my lock mechanism and rebuilt the key mechanism - not hard to do and the difference is night and day.
