Fuel Door Release Cable
I have an '82 Targa SC and the fuel door release cable came out when I pulled on it.
Now I can't open my fuel door to refuel. Any ideas on what I can do?: |

Use a pick tool and grab the latch to release the door.
Welcome aboard!

Post a pic of your targa! It's the custom when you do your first post (or at least within your first thread)
Dental floss might also help you here, fish it through with something long and stout like a bamboo shiskabob skewer or whathaveyou, then pull it back once you can grab both sides. That would make a temporary (if a bit ghetto) fix while you putz around with that cable attachment.

I think you can reach from under the fender too?

From under the fender you can remove the 3 screws that hold the door to the fender then wiggle the latch off, .....probably.

A pick? Unscrewing the cover? NO! Not needed at all.
Get a flat cotton cloth shoestring or a piece of fishing line or dental floss. Slip it under the rear of the fuel door (skinny side closest to the side view mirror), hold both ends of the shoestring and pull it gently toward the front of the car. The fuel door will spring open.

DRACO is right. My 86 needed a pick...Once it was popped you can work from both sides to get it fixed.

Oh No'
No metal tools at all
You can use string . Make a big loop , put it in the front of the door toward the windshield , keep it high and pull it toward the bumper for an easy release . I know this is an old thread but my cable just broke on my 83 when I was getting gas today I had a bicycle inner tube in the boot and was able to snake it in and release the door No metal tool , you will damage your car! Ordering new cable on pelican right now ![]()

A piece of weed wacker string works great. Do a practice run and then keep a piece in the glove box just in case.

I carry a 18 inch piece of weed wacker string in my glove box. Open the fuel door and look at it, it is real obvious what needs to happen with the string. All 911s with the fuel door need a few grams of that string in the glove box.
