Are all 2 in 2 out mufflers loud?
I would like to replace my 2 in 1 out OEM muffler with a 2 out type, but all the posts I've read about the 2 out mufflers state how loud they are. Is this true of mufflers from all the various vendors? I wouldn't mind a little extra noise over what I have now (might even welcome it), but nothing obnoxious.
What about the Dansk Sport? It's obviously one of the heavier options out there ![]() thanks, Frank

Yup....my seat of the pants Dyno tells me that they all they do is make more noise. My single outlet seems to run better than the old dual one did...

I was just talking with the wife about putting the flowmaster 80 2-in-2-out from the track car on the street car and she rebelled. I forgot how loud it was, it is aural porn but way too loud for the street.

My Dansk 2/2 is pretty loud, but it's the drone that bothers me the most.

Fully agree, my Dansk 2/2 was very loud, and it drones awful.
When first fitted it was so loud I had to take it off, cut it open and pack it with e-glass there wasn't any in there !!! Now it's a bit quieter and sounds really wicked, but still drones a bit. If I could spend my money again in all honesty I would avoid Dansk.

Yup Our mufflers are 10db louder in 2 outs. though with ours you can remove 1 tail pipe and block it off our sport mufflers though are quieter then our mirrored 2 out considerably but those don't fit your valance very well. Now that said I ran around for years with my gen3 2 in 2 out on my 77 with an 81 engine in it and could have a conversation with my son in the back seat pretty easily. it was much quieter then the flowmaster I had on it previously (pre M&K). If I were choosing a muffler I would go of course with our product or a monty no other choice IMHO.

I have a GEN II M&K 2 in 2 out on my 3.0 with SSI's and it is fairly loud. But during everyday driving I install a cap on the passenger side and it really tames things down. It still has a nice growl, you still have the look of two tailpipes and you still can uncork when you want. When I autocross or DE I pull the cap and grin ear to ear with the roar of the motor. I'm pretty sure the latest generation M&K's are quieter than my version but I love mine as is. I'm building a 914GT clone that will be running a 3.0 with headers and a very early R+D M&K 2 in 2 out, if this muffler is similiar to what I have on the SC I'll buy a plug from Ben ( M&K owner ) and plug the passenger side also. In my opinion the ability to switch back and forth is a nice option. It's just one bolt and the cap slips out, very easy.

Check out Sycips muffler as well. Wicked sounding on a 2.7.

I have an early stock muffler with SSI's. I had the muffler modified to dual outlet with 3 inch tips. It sounds great although it is very loud with a drone at around 1500-2500 RPM. I'm re-thinking to either install a cap or blank off one side.

I have 2-in, 2-out Triad muffler and it is very quiet. I think (and others have agreed) that it is more quiet than a stock factory muffler.

I think the noise out of a two out muffler depends on the engine type. My homemade
two out in the center on an OEM muffler wails with my 2.4S MFI motor at the higher rpms and upon deceleration. No drones at lower level. On a 2.7 or 3.0 CIS motor it probably would sound different. YMMV.

The engine makes a difference. I had an early M&K 2in-2-out on my 2.7 CIS w/SSI's. Sounded great, loud, but no drone. Sold it to a friend with a 3.0 CIS w/SSI's. Sounded great, loud, but it droned like a weasel on fire. I've had a Triad 2in-2out on the same 2.7. Not too loud, but it droned so bad, it drilled right into your head and almost made me deaf. I've also had an early stock muffler, modded into a peashooter. Sounds great, not too loud, no drone. Dansk 2in-2out, loud, but no drone. All the 2in-2out versions did not have the tone that I was looking for, so after trying many, the Dansk 2in-1out sport is my favorite.....Sounds great, not too loud w/nice tone and no drone. Your results may vary.
regards, al

My 3.6 with PMS re-make of a Dansk dual oulet has a big drone up to ~3300 rpms and is loud as well. Someday, I'll experiment with something else.
Anyone know where I can get a 2.25" cap? Thanks,

Wow - Thanks everyone for all the datapoints. This is exactly the type of information I was hoping for. I should have mentioned a bit about my configuration - 2.7 w/RS P&C (8.5:1), Webers, SSIs & Electromotive XDi2 Ignition. My next big project is 9.5 or 10.5 Compression and twin plug.
Since I don't do too many track events anymore, I'm not too interested in a muffler where I would need to cap off one side for around town since it would end up being that way most of the time, so there wouldn't be much point. Quote:
Are the mufflers displayed on your website the Gen5's? And when you say "those traits have disappeared" in response to Al's post, are you saying the Gen5 is similar (in sound) to the Dansk Sport 2-in 1-out which, according to Al, "Sounds great, not too loud w/nice tone and no drone"? Of course as Al pointed out what sounds great with his configuration might not carry over to mine, not to mention the subjective nature of this whole topic ![]() Frank

I have 2 out in my other car. The drone is from the frequency overlapping and vibrates the trunk. I got a plug from Home Depot. You can find it in the plumbing department. It looks like a big rubber plug with a big wing nut on it. For everyday driving it leave the plug in.
