reverse switch pin movement issue

This is on my 78 930 outlaw
Has anyone had this issue? As you know, the pin needs to slide out to engage the reverse light switch. Mine doesn't move. Neutral, all forward gears and reverse gear have the pin in the same postion - always out. So the reverse lights are always on.

Obviously an internal issue (maybe). But pull the engine and trans just to get the back-up lights to work?!!!!! Has to be another way

Any one have ideas on this

thanks,
Mark
