pertronix install - tips?
About to install Pertronix ignitor in Bosch distributor on my 72S.
Any tips, pitfalls to avoid, or suggestions from those who have already done this would be appreciated. Have heard that tach irregularities can result if wiring directly to coil (???) Thanks,

Keep an extra set of points and condensor with you. They have a tendency to fail at the worst time. Usually the day after the warranty expires.....
Personally I would go with the Crane/Allison optical trigger system.

911kiwi, just installed same in my 74. The one thing I didn't like is the way the wires comeoutof the actual unit. Seems to me they shouldhave come out of the other end (would have been a lot easier to come out of the dist). I do like the fact that once installed properly you can not tell it's there. Worked flawlessly first time and car does seem to run better. Email me as I took some pics. poorsha@shaw.ca

i installed ours on 75 911s with msd it was real easy. red goes to the fused side of the second fuse in the engine compartment. black goes to the msd or cdi and tach. no problems and car has great low end.

Yeah, ignore the Pertronix instructions - they assume typical inductive (no CDI ignition). As Gary said, +12v (switched) is needed for the red wire, and the black wire connects to whatever the points used to connect to - ie the trigger for the CDI box. You don't need to touch the coil wiring at all...

Thanks for the replies guys. I didn't mean to post TWO enquiries - but I've got twice as many replies SO maybe it wasn't sucjh a bad idea!
Seems to be agreement on not attaching to coil - using fuse box instead. Installing tomorrow - will let you know the result. Gary
