1979 911sc key stuck in ignition please help

I’m looking fir some advice on removing the key out of my removed ignition.

I removed the ignition from my 1979 911sc and the key is stuck in the the tumbler. The key rotates through properly and the spring works at start accessories but fir the life of me I can’t get it out.

Could it be that it requires power to remove?

I’m trying to salvage this ignition to not be out $$$

Thanks for any help and guidance in advance.

I occasionally have the same issue, although I haven't resorted to removing the ignition. Would like to know if there is a known solution.

Something that I found helpful was twisting the key slightly counter clockwise from the rest/off position before pulling.

I am using a newer key that was cut from the key code, so it hasn't been worn down over time like the cylinder likely has.

I removed the 2 lock screws by drilling out then carefully played with the ignition until it popped out. Wasn’t as easy as if the key was removed… lol.

I’ve tried pretty much everything while it’s been clamped into my vice. I figured it would be easier to remove the key once it was out of the car with hopes to not brake the key off in the ignition.

Perplexed

On my 77, it helped if I move the plastic part of the key up and down, left and right.
It has taken me the better part of 15 minutes to remove it on occasion.
Don't force it.
When you get it out, squirt a few drops of Kroil on the key and insert/remove a bunch of times.
What happens is that the individual flags in the tumbler become gunked up, to the point where will not raise/release the metal part of the key on their own springs.

If you have the tumbler out, keep dropping the Kroil down the key shaft - maybe every day until it comes free.

Not a porsche ignition key. but I've had success with someone else going tap tap tap... With a small ball peen hammer or similar while I wiggle and pull on the key. You are trying to bounce the tumbler out while pulling it lightly.

I had that problem with a Fiat I had. I had to squirt some lube, or WD40, can't remember, and then it would slide out. Maybe you have some parts that are not moving as they should in there. Anyway, it's a quick easy thing to try.
