my first 911 Spark Plug change
This is how the Spark Plugs on my 86 Targa look. Color on the picture is somewhat misleading: it's lighter in real life (orange/yellow/brown-ish). To me (with limited experience in reading sparks) the colouring indicates that ignition is fine and little/no oil burning.You agree? No clue when those were put in, but I did 6500 miles on them after I bought the car last year. Gap is 0.7mm.
I am going to replace the sparks anyway, cause I am doing a major service job to set all service counters to zero. Are the old plugs worth keeping as a spare? ![]() |

Just changed mine on my '87 Coupe after 15,000 miles. My #5 is a little oily.
Other than that those look like mine. I'd say you're fine. ![]()

All the plugs look fine. Consider keeping at least one for checking the spark in your neighbors Lamborghini.

If the plugs (electrodes & insulators) look okay, clean them up a bit and keep them as spares. Get some new crush washers though. If you have a bit of gunk or residue on the tips, hit them with some flame to burn it off -- propane torch is okay, MAPP is better.
BTW, 0.7mm (0.028") is a bit tight. If the rest of your ignition system is okay, I'd open up the gap to 0.032" - 0.035" or so. Good luck!
