70 911... backdate?
Hello everyone. I recently managed to get a 1970 911E from my uncle who's been hiding it in a garage for 25 years. During this time, he modified it in such a way to utilize 80's bumpers, and the reflector panel. I'm not a purist, but I do prefer the bumpers it should have. My question is if anyone can point me in a direction for this. By looking at the car, would you be able to say if "backdating" the car would be the information I should search for? Or is there an undo the 90's theme post somewhere here lol. Thank you all!

Looks like it has stock front fenders, SC flares on rear, and a 3.2 Carrera engine installed?

You can order wider than stock early bumpers for the rear to keep the look you're going for. What a cool project.

You are correct on the engine and rear fender work! The front fenders have been worked on as well, but I'm not too sure to what extent yet. I'll get some better pictures tomorrow. These are from when I was first striking the deal in the garage.

From th earlier post about a wider bumper that'll fit my need, does a early style bumper fit over the panel that the later model Porsche center reflector attaches to? I assumed that section along with the latch assembly would need to be cut out and replaced with original pieces... This car has impact bumpers with little accordion pieces alonf the edges that now fit it. |

Hi here, nice project. Mine is a '71T that was also "forward dated" at some point, the PO started to bring it back to original body panels and then surrendered the car to me to finish the process! Little ways to way to go still
![]() Restoration Design located in Canada, or Dansk, or Porsche, have many of the panels you need to bring back to a long hood. It will include some cutting and welding! You can also find reasonable parts and sheetmetal in the used parts classifieds if you keep an eagle eye out, I am sure others have further knowledge of the where and the how. Cheers -- |

Thank all for the detailed information! The rear looks to be the easy portion, but I se what you mean in regards to cutting and welding for the front. The sections of front fender that hang down behind the original turn signals are chopped off. I imagine I'd be better off locating another long hood as opposed to welding on the piece that's gone. I'll be on the hunt for that sheet metal now! I'll be back soon though. This thing hasn't run in 15 years, and while going over the engine, I'm attempting to learn what goes into a 3.2/915 swap for a 70 911. The car came with stacks of shop manuals for both cars if anyone needs anything. Again, thank you all and have a great day!

I'm trying hard to stick with that goal, it's just so easy to get sucked into parts and extra things online. A lot of the vacuum lines are cracking, so I'm in the process of deleting hoses for the power brakes and cruise control. I guess it was on the 84 the engine came from, definitely not on the 70. Get the exhaust bolted back up, little pre oil action, and we'll see if she runs!

Backdate?
Tom here is the end result of my 71 E build. I don't think there is a right way. Review the forums and vendors and find what suits your taste. Make it yours be happy we have another older P car on the road and drive it. Mine had wider fenders when I purchased it so went with it. I like the look of the wider rear. I also went down the rabbit hole and dropped in a 3.6 with PMOs It can be a fun journey so plan carefully.
