A not so straight forward Green Wire install

Im on my way to getting this 81 back in tip top shape and order up one of those famous green wires for my distributor...and then I start looking at the connectors and they dont exacly match up. It seem the PO hard wired in the green wire somehow and this is what I ended up with:

im guessing ill have to graft in the correct connector part, does any one have the part number? Im not even sure what to call it... Hoping that Wayne has it in stock here at Pelican as I need to put an order in for some other things.

The factory green wire was hardwired all the way to the CD box, the replacement is designed to be spliced in without opening the entire wiring loom.
You need an AMP/TYCO style, 2 pin connector. Also called a fuel injector connector, EV-1 style connector, and about a dozen other things.

It's the same connector that is used on the WUR, AAR, cold start injector, and air plate sensor. Used in a million cars for a million various things.

Search for either:
"Bosch EV-1" (I like this style, the removal is easier, but the connector is too big to be used in tight locations)
"AMP Junior Timer" which is closer to the stock style on the engine.
"bosch fuel injector terminal kit" gives lots of options as well.

You might even find one down the street at the car parts store.

Cut the green wire, use the terminal kit to connect one wire to the center core and one to the spiral wrap. Use the existing wire to determine which wire is which in the connector that goes into the distributor, if you get it switched the car will barely run.

Good info, Mike.

I did it the other way around. After paying a squillion $ for the green wire I was not going to cut it. I went to a self serve bone yard and snagged a couple of the female connectors from a wrecked Jetta then soldered the two wires from the connector to the wire going to the CD box.

Not a pro job and I would rather see KEMO get a couple of new connectors (extra one for the learning curve) and figure out how to connect the wires directly to the internal clips if he goes that route.

Search green wire. I posted a step by step on how to do it.
I have the connector, terminals and the rubber boot. PM me if you like.
Same "kit" as eagle day sells, just cheaper.

Get the wires correct!
SC Distributor Internal Wiring???

I have, since the time of that thread, bought a replacement green wire, and rewired it back to the then-new MSD box. I bought some Tyco Amp-Jr connectors on Ebay, I think.

its not that critical, any 2 wires will do. Porsche did use a coax wire to shield interference for what ever reason. But you can put a connector in line to make removal of the distributor easer. I found several years later that my SC had the green wire cut and it was stripped and wire nuts were used to connect the wires! it was this way for 3 years and never missed a beat. It's just a trigger wire.
