right side torsion bar sticking out

Installing new torsion bars and spring plate bushing but the right side is sticking out. The dvr side when in no issues but this side is pushing the cap out of the spring plate when I tighten up the cover. I hit it with a soft hammer not very hard (space limited) and seemed to go a little more in the inner splines but still sticking out.

Any way to clean/check inner splines? Old bar came out and stuck in the spring plate so I used air hammer to remove it from plate. New bar is same length (maybe 1mm longer) sway-a-way bought from Pelican.

Do I hammer on it harder to set it into inner splines before bolting down spring plate?

Clean and check the splines on the old one before you start whacking.

The torsion bars butt up against each other in the middle of the torsion bar tube. If the other bar is in too far, the opposite side won't go all the way in. Check the other side. Take any load off the spring plates and you should be able to lightly tap the bars in so they are even.

This is the correct answer. When I did mine I had no idea they meet in the middle. Ended up taking both sides apart and centering the torsion bars and then installing everything simultaneously. Was a bit of a pain, wish I did 1 side at a time to prevent that but live n learn!

Figured it out, the first side I did, the torsion bar wasn't into the spring plate as far as it should have been. Took it all apart, cleaned the spines again and persuaded it into place and it went together. Thanks for the help!
