Another option to add a Voltmeter

I designed a small triple gauge to replace the clock and figured it would also be a good way to add a voltmeter to the fuel/oil gauge. I've added voltmeters to tachs and also built several AFR/Voltmeter combo gauges to replace clocks, but this is another option if you need another spot to add it.

This gauge is a direct replacement for the existing fuel/oil level gauge with no additional wiring for the voltmeter. There is a small modification that will need to be made for the dash lighting as there was no room for the standard light tube. I used 2 of the later twist in bulbs used in the 963/993 gauges.

There is fair amount of work and custom parts to build these so unfortunately it's not going to be a cheap option. I can build them for $400 if you send me a good working fuel/oil gauge.

Looks great. Can you retain the low fuel warning light?

Thanks Mark. I can't retain the factory low fuel light bulb because there is no space for the light tube, however I can add an internal LED so it will look basically the same from the front of the gauge and I can provide a spade connector on the back for the light.

I'll post a picture of the back. The instrument lights are also integrated into the back on this gauge due to the lack of space so there will be a couple wiring modifications required for the lights. Modifications can be made so they are reversible.

I can probably make a few of these after the holidays. Send me a PM if you are interested in one and I will have my son machine the parts while he's home for winter break.

That's way nicer than the USB cigarette lighter plug-in I use.

I don't understand the OEL gauge labeling - Liter and Quart - what's up with that? Are those numbers in liters or quarts?

Nice work John. Please add me to this list as well.

Now if I can only find a core gauge.

Quart, liter its only a couple oz,cc difference! Halfway is halfway. I use the dipstick when adding oil.

What 911obgyn said: 1 Quart = .95 Liter

The face is based on the factory pre-74 oil level face

I can also make them with the later, non-numeric, face

Hey Len... Hope all is well on your end. I'll let you know when I'm ready to build these. If you can't find a core I should have one we can use. Happy Holidays!

Finally shipping he first one of these.

I'm going to make a few more of these so PM me if you're interested. They will be around $400 if you provide the fuel/oil level gauge. Like the other quad and triple gauges I've been building, my son does the machine work for the custom parts. He will be home for Spring Break next week so if you want one, this is your chance. After next week, I wont be making anymore of these until Winter.

I can make them with the voltmeter at the top or bottom and the oil level gauge can be the early or later style.

If this replaces the existing Tank/Oil gauge, then why does it also replace the clock? Moving this gauge to the clock location would leave the dash without a clock, and would create a hole at the left edge where the Tank/Oil gauge used to be. The gauge is handsome, but I do not understand why it does not simply replace the existing gauge.

Sorry... The way I worded it was confusing. What I was trying to say, is that I designed a small triple gauge to replace the clock and used the same design to add a voltmeter to the fuel/oil level gauge.

Here is a picture of the gauge I designed to replace the clock. The gauge in this thread is a direct replacement for the fuel/oil level gauge. I edited the first post... Hopefully it's more clear now. Thanks.

Thank you. Very nice gauges. Do sending units come along with your AFR gauges (air fuel ratio, I assume)? Do these senders go into the exhaust system?

It occurs to me that these gauges, particularly if combined with the addition of numbers into the Oil Temp gauge, would make a 911 dash look even more like an airplane cockpit than it already does.

Email address

Hey John Bell, can I get your email address for some gauge restoration work? For some reason I can't see it and I have opened multiple tickets with Pelican Parts and they can't see to fix the technical problem. Aargh. Thanks man.
