New to me 79' 911 SC, need a key!
Good morning!
I finally bought got the 911 I've wanted for so long and I need a spare key. What are my options? Can I buy a blank and have lock smith trace the key I have now or do I need to go to the dealer?

Congratulations, nice car! There is nothing special about a 79 ignition lock and key . You can buy the correct blank and have any one with a key cutting machine cut it to match your current key. Ive had my local hardware store cut several with out any problems . They didn't even charge me since they only charge for the blank. However if they don't do it right you are out the cost of the blank.

If you don’t have a key at all, bring your title to the dealership and they can order one. Brand new, not a copy of a worn out key.

I do have a key so I'll try and get a blank and get it traced, hopefully PP sells them. |

its an old VW key, any old time lock smith should have the blank and be able to fire one out for you . I had 5 made when i got the car.. toal of about 15$
