No more 5 qt Mobil 1 at Walmart?
Hey... can't seem to find the 5 quart container of Mobil 1 that was previously available at Walmart at a favorable price...something like $17 for 5 qts.
Have they stopped making this size/price for Walmart? Where else can I get it inexpensively? --Wil Ferch |

Wil,
I just saw it within the last two weeks at a Walmart in NJ. I'll keep my eyes open next time there.

From my experience, it's completely hit-or-miss.

I have heard about the 5 qt container of Mobil 1 but have never seen it at the Walmart in my area. admittedly I don't spend a lot of time in Walmart.

Targa80...
I'm not sure if i was just insulted...I don't spend a lot of time at Walmart either..but when high quality brand names are *known* to be sold there for cheap...I'm there...and quickly depart. Otherwise...never set foot in there !! ---Wil Ferch

Boy isn't that the truth...doesn't seem to be another brand option regarding filters at that store.
For those who haven't been following other threads...Don't buy Fram. --Wil Ferch

Our Wal-Mart never has the 5-qt jugs.
What to do? Go to Target and get the individual quarts for $3.49 ea. I believe.

Isn't Target considered the Upscale KMart?
Fram is know for their exploding housings. Besides that I was speaking to an engineer at MANN and he said that FRAMs filtration is excellent. Now if they could use higher quality components.

To All:
I apologize if my comment was insulting to anyone. It was not my intent to make any reference to shopping at Walmart means your cheap. I also am a bargain hunter when I can find it. What I meant was that I rarely go there so I have not seen Mobil 1 5 Qt. containers when I was there. I spend more time at Home Depot and a lot of time at Harbor Freight main wharehouse store in my town. Now Harbor Freight is a Bargain paradise when it comes to cheap tools.

I shop at Walmart all the time. What are you people saying? Are you somehow better than me?
I can never find the 15-50 Mobil 1 at Walmart either. Then I talked to my mechanic. "I just go to Walmart and buy up all the 5-quart containers," he says. "I clean 'em out. Best deal in town." ![]()

Well this seems a great place to tell all of you useing Mobil one in
pre 89 911's that you are pissing away money on an oil that is not the most highly recommended oil for your car. OK , the "right " oil is KENDAL 20w50 gt-1. save money and change offen and stop those leaks, also cools better. AS PER BRUCE ANDERSON. and It has Worked for Me. Keith |

![]() ![]() Everybody's got their own oil preferences. I use Valvoline 20W50 VR-1 Racing in the 911 and Exxon Superflo or Chevron in my turbocharged car. Are they any good? I dunno. They have cool looking bottles. If an extra couple bucks a quart makes people feel better then so be it. I think you're safe with just about any brand name oil. The only one I recall being a little suspect is the ultra cheap Mobil oil. I guess they contain a high % ash content. At least they used to...... Now it's "Drive Clean" oil so it's gotta be good!!!! ![]()

I'm constantly struggling with the Dino/Syn debate. I'm a firm believer that Mobil 1 Syn does not break down at high temps, and for our air colled cars this is VERY important for the top-most piston ring and cylinder land groove that otherwise takes a beating when using ANY dino oil. The dino oil will simply not tolerate the very high temps of THAT particular area of the engine, wheras the Mobil 1 will.
As to leaks...well, yeah, there seems to be enough evidence that it helps find its way out of an engine, just like the quart containers of Mobil 1 themselves...always seem geasy and leaky from the outside compared to the other brand's dino oil on the shelf. So...you're left with the dilemma and choice of giving your engine that extra edge in protection or living with ( or even chasing down and fixing) the various leak paths that can develop. But don't ever say that Mobil 1 doesn't have an edge from a lubrication/protection standpoint..it does. ---Wil Ferch ( with over 200K miles on both of his other daily drivers..on normal oil...go figure. Water cooled, tho).

Wal-Mart is the best. Where else can you get .45 cal 230gr. hollow points that cheap, and while your girlfriend loads up on cleaning supplies? I love that place. And the one by my house is open 24/7.

You know, i have no affilition to amsoil, but i've been running their 10-30w for about 6,500 miles now in my daily driving 944. Even though they claim to let it run for like 30,000 miles or some crap like that, there's now way i am letting oil stay in their for that long. I am going to change the oil finally within the next 1,000 miles when i get a chance. But i have to say, i don't baby either of my cars at all (my daily trip up the mountain on my way home is usually in the range of 90-100 in my 944) and i checked the dipstick for discoloration or any sign at all of fatigue. The oil looked like mobil 1 does at after 3,000 miles. Not Bad. Although i did notice that mobil will develop oil pressure about a .5 sec faster than ams (i guess it flows a little better initially). But overall, i like both products, but have never tried good dino oils like valvoline or kendall. Although when i bought my 911 it had been changed by PO from mobil to castrol syntec and seems to take it.

I bought my oil drain pan at Wal-mart, didn't notice until too late that it had a hole melted in the bottom!
