Quick Focus 9 SS DME relay tech help

Ok so I received my relay and still having problems starting my car. Need help from those who have the same relay with pump/prime to understand the diagnostic lights on it (yes, I reached to Focus 9 as well but they are a little slow to reply).

It has these lights on it:

(Yellow) Ignition SW – Input signal to power up fuel injection system and enable fuel pump control.
(Red) Fuel Inj. Power – Output indicating the fuel injection system is powered up.
(Green) Ctl. Fuel Pump – Input signal indicating the DME has commanded the fuel pump on.
(Blue) Fuel Pump – Output indicating the fuel pump is powered up.


When I turn the key to ignition on (not starting), ALL the lights initially come on, sometimes the fuel pump runs like it's supposed (and sometimes not), but then prior to cranking only the yellow and red remain lit. All turn back on when cranking but the car won't start.

I'm thinking it's the fuel pump. Should ALL the lights always be on? With the green and blue OFF, does that indicate the fuel pump is flakely?

Can someone tell me what theirs does for comparison?

Everything else on the car is stock and well maintained. No starting issues ever till now. No aftermarket alarms or frankensteined accessories added.

Can you reinstall the old relay? Try to start it. If it starts the fuel pump is working.

Unfortunate that Focus 9 has not responded (just bought one from them too) as it seems they would be the definitive source to understanding how the lights on the relay should operate.

I think your lights are right. The blue should be on when the pump is running. I have a pump prime version and my blue light comes on and fires up the pump and turns off 3 seconds later. Then when cranking the green comes on and the blue as soon as the DME sees enough engine speed to turn on the pump (green) and the pump actually comes on (blue). I'm making some assumptions here, but if the green is on but the blue isn't coming on, you have a pump issue. DME wants the pump on, but its not turning on. If you don't even get the green, the DME isn't trying to turn on the pump and that is likely a speed sensor error or maybe an issue in the DME relay given that it has the ability to turn the pump on and off in the prime version.

Already tried the old relay and same no start. When I first installed the SS relay it did turn the pump on briefly like I expected. Car started, sputtered but then stopped like out of gas. Initial restarts and didn't hear the pump first. Later that day the pump did "prime" like expected but no run. This AM I turned the key and no fuel pump noise at all. Same result with the old relay so I'm pretty sure the SS new one is working like expected.

This weekend I'll get under it and check out the pump. Never been touched under my ownership and not sure when last replaced, if ever.

Just trying to get my ducks in a row in troubleshooting. Dont think it's ignition or the other sensors but I will check the connections.

Just jumper the pump at its fuse to hear if it runs. If not, the pump may have failed damaging the DME relay.

I had a similar problem, it was the ignition switch. It would initiate the "start" sequence when I turned the key. Car would fire and start, but when the key went back to "run" it would cut the fuel pump and the car would die.

Replaced the ignition switch (on the back of the key cylinder) and it worked fine afterwards.
