‘79 SC dashboard install questions.
Hello all, I’ve never had the dash out of my car, but a friend with a ‘79 SC is reinstalling one and asked if I could identify certain holes on the dash. See the attached photo, they’ve stumped me and I have done a fair amount of searching without any luck.
Anyone know what the holes circled in the photo are for? Looks like they would come right up behind the windshield seal. Something to hold the forward portion of the dash pad in place? Or maybe they aren’t original? Thanks for any help you guys can offer. ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The dash has flaps that are held down by sheet metal screws, so factory

It looks like the dash pad itself is anchored down through the inner holes. If i had to guess i'd say it's possible the dashboard cover itself is attached via those edge holes.

yes, as eastbay said....those are for phillips head sheet metal screw.You can use it randomly wherever you thing the flap is sticking up....

I have mine out right now too - same as the one in pic. They are little phillips head screws that sit in a cup washer. They hide behind the screen rubber lip - thats why and the only reason, you have to remove the screen. I have wondered what happens if you leave them out.

I’ll be painting my project car at some point. So, I’ll need to pull the glass regardless. The dash is trashed so that needs replacement as well. I plan on leaving the hidden screws out. Seams like a ridiculous design. Especially given that windshield replacement can be a total PITA on our cars.

After a bit more thinking on this, it might not be a bad idea to put a few dabs of silicone or perhaps contact cement to minimize the chance of lifting. I’d think you’d still be able to pull the dash without removing the windshield.

Thinking on further, I did need to get in and under the front of the dash to ping it free of the plastic cups in the dash - screw driver stuff. Not sure how you would lift the front free if you can't get in under it. It doesn't just flop out.
