Hi everyone, I'm installing a msd cdi ignition in my 83 sc, anyone that has done this how did you run the power wire from the starter?
Thanks for any ideas.

I haven't done one, but I believe one of the fuses in the rear fuse box (3) has power all the time.

I ran power from the three fuse panel. I think it's highly recommended in a lot of the MSD threads (maybe even the MSD instructions??) to run it directly from the starter (which I think comes directly from the battery), but I haven't had any issues in about a year/6,000 miles since installing.

Also worth mentioning that Dennis (timmy2) sells a plug for the MSD box that allows you to tie into the factory CDI connector. Worked great for me and nice to keep the factory wiring in place.

There is lots of room on the big batt terminal on the starter to put a ring terminal and double nut it. However when I did mine, I used the power feed in the white T connection near the CDI box. Thats the same line that goes to the little fuse panel. Highly recommend Timmy2's adapter to the factory harness. Im not trying to take away from Timmy2's revenue stream but due to distance, crossing the border etc, he sent me the part #'s to make my own adapter. These are from Digi key. Qty1 180906-5, qty 6 42460-1. Parts were $3.75. Easy to make.

One power supply is supposed to be constant power, the other is switched. The CDI power connection is switched power. The rear fuses have a constant power and a switched power.

The one in the T connector is switched which works perfect for an MSD box.

Thanks for the replies. I saw the power at the fuses but I wasn't sure if they would handle the increase in current. I'll use one of those.
Thanks again
