Gimmick or not, i think its interesting for sure. I could be wrong, but it appears to be a modified Aisin AMR500 supercharger which a bit lacking in size and used mostly on small displacement engines.

They have the compressor map posted there. It struggles to move more than 175
cfm which is equal to about 12 lbs/min. Good for a motor that might max out around 120hp. (all rough math but it isn't going to work...)

Not to mention they show 1 AWG wire to power the thing. Per my charts that puts the current draw at around 100-130 amps. Guess you would need to do something to upgrade your alternator as well.

Not really, MB is using it now on the twin turbo engine to get the slug SUV out of its own way until the turbos spool up. The battery is used as the resister and it is used at low RPM. That made me think of the P car and start off torque, we have a wild ride when it gets to 3500 on up but we are squeezing hard down low. The numbers are impressive to be able to get 2 bar out of it but we only need about 6 PSI for a few seconds to get on the T curve.
