Help identifying two wires

The car is a 1976 RHD Targa. RSR Replica.

Can someone help identify the 2 wires in the picture below please?
I thought they were for the license plate lights but they don't have power when the lights are on.

Rear fog lamp? But usually left side looking from back of the car.
Normally two sets come out , right side is oil level and license lamps.
Left side is rear fog lamp and license lamp.
Maybe some wiring changes were made during the RSR changes.

I can't see any obvious modifications to the wiring. I will test them again and check all the fuses

Do you have license plate lights on the underside of the decklid? Those are the wires that used to go through the rear bumper guard to the plates light. I think they might have their own fuse. They'd hopefully be diconnected but if your car is backdated they may as well be removed.

One should go to ground. The other should have power with light switch on if for the license plate lamps mounted on the bumper rubber.

Thanks for the help
If they are on their own fuse, then that could explain why no power when I had the lights on. i will double check all fuses
The car hasn't been backdates

Well it's certainly been renovated! Looks great.

Those wires will come in handy if you want to install license plate lights like the factory did:

I have to ask, do you own that repair shop or are you just using the facility. I see a lot of Porsches and parts in different stages of disassembly.

Are the wires colored or coated? Weird to see a pair of brown wires. From the photo they almost look like household speaker wire.

Normal for 74 and newer. Porsche started using high temp cloth insulated wiring for the license lamps and to the oil level sender/rear fog lamp.

Neat, thanks. Did they do this for under-deck maintenance lights as well?

Not sure what you are referencing? Engine lid lamp?
No, those are the only ones I'm aware of. Likely due to heat at the rear bumper.

Yes the engine lid lamp, but it wouldn't make sense for those wires to be routed down where shown.

Looks like the fuse is not even powered, see the yellow arrow.
I might just wire the plate lights from the rear park lights.
