turn signal wont cancel DIY?

My left turn signal wont cancel. Never has in 15 years. The right side cancels fine.

I finally decided to spend the $ on a new turn signal unit. But when I read the reviews, at least for the genuine porsche part, seems some complain that they have issues with the high beam failing or coming on after hitting a bump after a few years.

It seems silly to trade 1 problem for a different problem, especially at this price.

My turn signal stalk is original and otherwise works perfect except for the left self cancelling issue

So im wondering, rather than replace, has anyone tried to repair or modify the tab so that it self cancels properly? I have not taken this apart to look to see if it is even possible.

I do know my cancel ring attached to the steering wheel is ok.

Had the same issue on my 73.5 T. On the turn signal switch there are two small springs that pull the detent rocker back to center. On mine one of the springs had shifted and all I had to do was shift it back in place. The springs are also sold separately from the switch also in case one is broken.

The DIY on replacing the switch doesn't seem too difficult. It's a project but if you bought a replacement you could pull the original and try to fix it if the springs just need adjusting as TooTall mentioned

Yea I’ve figured out how to replace with a new one. But, like I said above…seems the originals are better quality than the new ones so it would be better to just fix the original

Im just not sure what’s involved as I’ve never taken one out to inspect

If it is a spring issue, does pelican sell the springs?

Since it only doesn’t cancel left, I would pull it apart and check that the springs are in place. If the switch tab was broken it wouldn’t cancel at all. Make sure the switch is not activated when you put the wheel back on or you can / will break the tab.

As far as preventing the high beams from failing, you’ll want a headlight relay kit from JWest or similar which takes the switch out of the headlight circuit.

I would assume it’s the spring like others have said. I replaced my stalk at one point and in doing so knocked one of the springs loose. That was the culprit. Yours may not be broken. It was pretty easy to see that it had slipped off the plastic end.

Do you mean that the spring could still be in there, just not on properly?

If it’s gone, how do I source a spring?

Yep, that was my case. If it’s gone I doubt there is a part number for it, but you should be able to measure the other one and get an approximate equivalent from a Fastenal or McMaster or that kind of place.
