911 SC Dashboard Install Question
I have a ‘79 SC with the typical warping leather dashboard issues. While my car is in the body shop getting a restoration, now was the time to pull the old warped dash out and replace as the windshield is out.
I found an excellent used vinyl dash here on this site. My issue is this, I could not get the 2 studs that are on top of the instrument cluster to meet the holes they are meant for on the dash. The 7 clips were lined up perfectly at the front (toward the windshield) as were the 5 studs along the front of the dashboard. But the studs are not forward enough to align with their holes. I ended up removing the two studs and installing the dash without them. My questions are: - Is there a trick to it that I am missing? - Is it okay to install the dash without the those studs? ![]() Thanks!! Mike ![]() ![]() ![]()

I had a similar problem and just used a round file to elongate the hole slightly.

I assume that because of this variation in cars, the new replacement dash top from Porsche just eliminated those two studs.
My new dash did not have them, ordered from a Porsche dealer, via Porsche classic. |

Thanks, that’s interesting. Maybe I will leave them out.
