15% Ethanol use

So now we're likely using a 15% ethanol blend without knowing.

I'm going to test CIS O rings and spare CIS hose in a glass jar of high test fuel for the balance of the season to see for myself if there's any damage done or water separating gel. I'll poke a tiny hole in the lid.

I rebuilt my fuel head so I have extra o rings. I will also test with a fuel stabilizer like Sta-bil, Lucas or Seafoam.

One more thing to be annoyed about lol.

It’s still mostly E10. Look at the labeling on the fuel pump. Besides, going from E10 to E15 means you would blend 50% more ethanol. There is not that much ethanol available, and even if there was the transportation( mostly truck and rail) could not support that type of increase. E15 is available, especially in the Midwest, but it won’t be mandated anytime soon.

We can get E15 and E85 just about anywhere here in MN. Corn gas is garbage. Luckily, we can also get non-oxy 91 too.

I'm friends with the local station owner and he confirmed it's likely E15 now no matter what the pump label states. I'm outside Philadelphia.

There is 1 Wawa station on the outskirts of the city that has pure gas. I've not made it a priority to drive there for fuel yet except for the mowers and tools that sit long periods of time between uses.

I actually have a project on the backburner to wire and plumb in an ethanol sensor for my efi but just haven't gotten around to it yet. Have the sensor sitting here in the garage...

I always urge my customers to check ethanol content where they buy gas. Yes, a bit of a PIA but here E10 usually tests lower, around 5%.

I think E15 has to be clearly labeled here. E10 will still be available. I’ve also noticed more ethanol free pumps around. Being part of the transition to a two tiered society, it’s expensive.

I live in Oklahoma. We don't grow much corn, but we have a vital oil industry. I can still buy 100% gasoline at most stations. It cost more, since it does not have the HUGE subsidy paid by the government to make the alcohol profitable to make.

Non-ethanol gas, especially super unleaded, has to be made with better ingredients as well since the ethanol found in other grades is mainly used to increase octane.

If you read the materials available, you will find that E15 is ok for cars made since 2001. Per the EPA that is about 90% of the cars on the road. For us air-cooled guys, E15 is a no-no.

Porsche has said that E10 is not good for air cooled and early liquid cooled cars in other countries.

Having rebuilt my fuel distributor I can say I'm concerned about the ethanol a lot. Little o ring and tiny orifices...

CIS fuel pumps circulate from and back into the tanks so..

We can run our tanks low or drain completely before being parked for months and add a healthy amount of Sta-bil ethanol additive or Sea Foam or whatever you prefer and flush out the system.

During the driving season I guess all we can do if clean gas isn't available is add the Sta-bil. Probably enough said here.

But I drive all year round weather permitting.

Remember in Europe that is per liter. That's about $8.17 per gallon. As of this posting at least.

In some states here it's 8 bucks/gallon already. Diesal is there.

We have 400 years of oil (for us) in just 3 states in the USA. btw, PA is one of the 3.

Some of the hike is inflation we're finally experiencing from governing like drunken sailors and Fed printing cash. I don't want to get into the weeds though...

I'm adding small amounts of fuel stabilizer as I use Bandit.

If a park for a sustained amount of time I'll flush the system out.

I did noticed detonation at sustained WOT recently which never happened before. Same station used for 93 octane. There are so many variables though especially with a 930 turbo.

keep in mind they switch to summer blend in june. I dont know if its better for the engine or not
