Arrow Help - Swapping a short shifter from a long throw shifter

I bought a complete shifter assembly thinking that this would be as simple as pulling out the long shifter and replacing it with the short shifter.

But no, the short throw shifter has a longer pivot, so it bottoms out in the shift rod boot, and/or the shift rod support is to long.

The short throw shifter will bolt up, but it won’t move because it’s wedged in place and bottomed out in the cup, so there is no room for the lever to pivot. I put the long shifter back in and it shifts fine.

Either the shifter needs to be raised or the stiff rod needs to be lowered.

What parts do I need to change, to get this thing to fit? Could I use a spacer and longer bolts to raise the housing?

Post a pic of the ball cup lever end, most likely it is one of the old school weltmeister or similar short shift kits from back in the day that replaced just the ball cup end of the lever and then had a spacer plate between the housing and base mount surface. There were several different types.

Yup, just as I suspected that ball cup end has been replaced and that kit would have come with a spacer. I have a dozen or so spare stock shift levers, shoot me an email to rfdanversjr@ gmail . com and I will get the box down if you can’t find the correct spacer plate.

Thanks Richard! I’ll shoot you an email. I think I want a long lever with a normal throw.

Cheers, Shane

Talking

Until I get the normal lever from Richard I have installed my new assembly with a home made short shift spacer. Goodbye to the spring centering shifter. I can shift without the spring centering, it’s natural and so much better without it, never needed it. Another great revelation from Ian!
