The Joys of Completely Meaningless Car Shows (!)

The third Saturday of the month, March through October, there is a local car show near me. It's mostly a hot roddish kind of group; a nice bunch of folks. They have about a g'zillion classes for muscle cars, hot rods, and the like and a couple of token classes for foreign stuff. These events can be huge with up to 300 cars entered... the show yesterday probably had 200 entrants (it was really hot/humid with a hint of threatening rain).

I've been an occasional extrant since 2014, and have won my class eight times out of eight entries (apparently, even the hot rod folk can appreciate a nice Porsche).

These "wins" are completely maningless, but the opportunities to talk cars frequently leads to great conversations. It's kinda fun... I was happy for the "win" yesterday, it was my 83rd birthday!

Happy Birthday!

I understand what you mean about local car shows. They are really just an opportunity for "car folks" to get together.

A few weeks back, I was at a local show and I was talking to the owner of a really nice E-type (series I, coupe) and he lamented that there weren't more sports cars to balance out the plethora of old muscle cars, restomods, and modern muscle.

I have often thought about taking my 911 to local shows, but never knew how it would be received. Next time, I won't just think about it - I'll do it.

At 74 I still enjoy an occasional car show. Its always interesting to see where they classify the Porsche. I've won Best Foreign, Best import, Sports Car, and even the Sub Compact class. Lots of good human contact at these shows for us old retired folk.

Coffee & Cars is probably my favorite with the same bunch of guys and only 2 hours on Saturday morning.

Happy Birthday!

Cars and Coffees are the best shows, I think. The model specific ones are always boring, the American ones are always awash with classic mustangs and the like, but for whatever reason it's Cars and Coffees that gets the BMW Isettas, VW Things and De Tomaso Mangustas in one show.

Frank, too bad your car was stuck in a corner, out of sight. Josh H told me where to find it. You deserved center stage.

Awwww, geez. Thanks. I had committed Gemini as Fuchsfelge USA's booth babe and their booth was located off the beaten path. So it goes. At least my car wasn't overexposed. ;-)
