Carrera Anti-sway Bars on SC

I'm considering adding a bit of roll stiffness to my '82 SC (22/28 bars with Bilstein sports front/rear) by switching to the 86 carrera anti-sway bars. Looking at the numbers, though, I see that this would be going from 20mm/18mm front rear to 22mm/21mm front rear.

This is a healthy increase in stiffness (+50%), but it looks like it's also a significant change in front/rear balance going from 20/18 to 22/21. What's the general thought on this replacement?

I ran these bars for years on my '76 (with the torsion bars, etc. noted below) and I found them to be great. They aren't adjustable, of course, but they were a nice improvement over the 20/18s that I was running previously. I was tracking my car a lot during this time and the overall balance, etc., was fine.

Hey thanks, so after the change you didn't feel any pronounced shift towards oversteer?

Not at all. Even with my existing-predisposition to oversteer with 22/29 torsion bars.

Others should weigh-in, though. Everyone's cars and driving styles are unique. For instance, I was also running 245/275 tires at the time. 275s in the rear can mitigate some oversteer.

Hah, holy smokes dude that's a lot of meat. I'm still on the stock 205/225s so yeah might need some more input.

One of the better sway bar discussions can be found here

I installed the 86 sway bars into my 82 SC along with 21/27 hollow torsion bars. The setup worked great for me.

David, you already have 22/28 T-bars, and you want more roll stiffness? If you have some of the later bars, sure slap them in and see what happens, but I expect it will make for a (even more) rough ride on less than perfect streets.

Yep! On track with modern rubber it's still rolling onto the tire shoulder too much. I do need to raise the car back up a bit to have a better roll center (or raise spindles) which might reduce roll, and I can check on that before going up on the anti-sway, but I'm not using all the tire that I can. That's with about two degrees camber up front.

At one point I was using a Ventus RS4 and was pretty much shaving the shoulders. I had to swap tires on the wheels after a couple of track days to have any shoulder left. (Edit: thinking on it this was back on stock t-bars, though, so not an apt comparison)

I've for sure been wary about adding more stiffness though, as I live in North Detroit and the roads around here are not wonderful.
