I never could get my SC to run anything like that. It was always a slug. Regardless of cam type & cam timing, type of ignition & spark timing. Two other SCs I tries act similar to the ones in the videoclips by being rev happy and like to charge ahead if that gives any meaning

You have trained the engine that lows revs are better, The build up of deposits on the back of the intake valve is what is holding back the revs . Keep reving the piss out of it and you will notice the change back to a happy rever , along with the seafoam

Ian,

You've inspired me over the last 3000 miles.
I feel it pull to 6800 rpm. Looking at rev indicator in 2nd or 3rd it climbs at a constant rate from 3500 to 6800 rpm. I know the machine shop went with a 5 angle valve seat grind?? cat gone. Cams by Doherty, but they were supposed to be stock, but has he magicalized it? remember reading Steve posting not overdo head clearance, something about flame front so even though skimming took place, still used the regular case/cylinder gasket.

I don't know who or what is to blame for this decent working machine? and yes, it sounds very happy up there, I think.

Have michelin ps a/s 4, less than 3000 Miles and can still break traction in 1st on average ashpalt at 3500 rpm, no problem. Just going gently then hammering the gas.

The cat has been replaced with a cheater pipe and the muffler has been replaced with a Borla 1 in 1 out.

Could the muffler have something to do with the engine's reluctance to rev freely?

My SC revs effortlessly just like that though these inductions could sound better.

As per Ian's instructions I've been pushing the engine harder than ever before. As an example, where I used to laze around in 3rd gear around town I now stay in second and consequently keep the engine revs higher. I'm doing much of the same on secondary roads, spending more time in 3rd and 4th as opposed to 5th. That, along with several treatments of seafoam seems to have "freed" up the engine somewhat.

I'm not in the habit of driving the p**s out of the car so I rarely go looking for red line but having said that I'll occasionally hit the red line in 2nd and I'm sometimes tempted to wring it out in 1st (such as pampadorri's post #44) to see if it'll scream up to 7000 rpm. It certainly feels like it wants to but it's the sound of that screaming engine that frightens me more than anything.
At 76 yrs, with possibly just a few years of driving left, I don't relish the thought of having to rebuild a broken engine, so I'll try to enjoy it as much as possible without abusing it.

Hugh,
Any gear but 1st as long as the engine's fully warmed up. I agree the CIS does sound raucous at full song.

Have I mentioned 1st ?
