Do headlights affect turn signals???
my right turn signal started doing a crazy random flashing. I've checked wires, flasher, have a new turn signal stalk. if i push me light switch in all the way it does a faded fast flash randomly at right turn signal. If I pull the light switch out a touch, it feels like it locks in place and the weird flashing stops. also, my front turn signal l will not flash with the park/headlight on. How do I test the headlight switch with an ohmmeter or voltmeter? I have the equipment and a Bentley manual; I just don't know how to test the switch. my car is a 1988 911 cabriolet. thank you

Some more steps in the process of elimination to consider: Clean up the contacts on the switch, terminals, sockets with some CRC electronic cleaner. Being isolated to ft. Right points to where to start backtracking. Anything and everything that was rewired and connected properly?
Battery charging output at 14.4v running? Condition of the bulbs and sockets…burned out 1 of 2 filament or broken making sporadic contact? Bulb inserted correct orientation? Do 4-way flashers work properly at all corners? |

I cleaned all the contacts and actually had to make up some new ends. I'm not blowing any fuses. I have LED lights with LED flasher. I tried going back to filament bulbs and its the same issue. it does do it with the hazards on. my alternator is putting out 14.4v.

I agree with EC900. I had an issue not long ago where the right side front head light wasn't working. after some checking the wires around the front indicator on the right i found an ground wire was not connected properly and as soon i fixed the ground connection the right front light came back on.
I think the head lights and indicator grounds are connected and share to same ground. But i'm not 100% sure check your wiring diagram if you have one to make sure good luck. Last edited by AUSTmike; 10-09-2022 at 08:50 PM.. |

Wondering if the LED module itself, easy to fry internally by themselves. Were these your install or were these added by prev owner? Are they LED headlamps or just signals? Brand name or knockoff? Try the manufacturer for some troubleshooting advice as I don’t think these are actually repairable.
I’m not familiar w/aftermarket LED but know that there’s voltage regulation and equalizers that are suppose to be plug &play with the 12v output on motorcycles, whereas Harley branded LED lights are specific to their bikes eliminating add-on modules. |

thanks for the response, guys, I'm going to go thru the grounds again. I'm all LED except the headlights, I'm getting there $$$$$. This is all my install. I'm also in the process of upgrading my fuse panel to blade fuses. I found some funky connections at the ceramic barrel fuses. I'm going to solder all the wire ends for a nice tight connection.

If you mean soldering the cable ends where they go into the screw terminals on the fuse panel you might want to think twice.
There are two potential issues. The first is that solder will wick its way up the cable making it stiff and more prone to breakage. The second is that you can get solder creep over time where the solder moves away from the screw and you’ll find loose screw terminals. Best to use ferrules. Like Porsche did. |
