964 Sport/race exhaust manifold?
Hey guys, anyone with knowledge/experience on aftermarket 964 exhaust manifold for 911 muffler?
If no one makes them in europe, who in the states? Is there anyone who makes them to order. I have spent SOME time searching now... ![]() I'm not looking for a larger diameter, but without heater boxes. And if you could get them with "V clamps" maybe.... What the heck, what if you could get them as step headers.. Or in the "right" length primaries... ![]() Does anyone know "in the neighborhood prices" for this kind of stuff? There are a few companies producing headers for the 964 engine. Systems for the 964 chassis however would be a bit more involved than those for G-body and Early 911 transplants.
A "standard" 911 muffler will not fit in a 964 chassis, nor would it have the proper capacity for the 964 engine. We produce custom systems for this application and for 964 transplants into earlier chassis. Headers are sized per engine spec with configuration depending upon which chassis the engine is installed (the 964 engine console is much larger than that of a 911). Custom mufflers are designed per spec as well to flow the proper amount and with tailpipes exiting where desired. This system was built for a 964-based engine G-body transplant. ![]()

Here in Europe there's DW Technik, M&M Exhaust, Cargraphic, Friedrich and others.
I only have experience with DW Technik, and can highly recommend Dieter's work. If it's just regular headers you might find a pair at Rosepassion? Last edited by Arlo911; 11-28-2022 at 11:31 PM.. |

@aircooled4evr -- does your 964 need to remain emission compliant? if you ditch heater boxes, how will you handle defrosting the windshield?

hi Arlo911
I like the price of RosePassion's 964 exhaust manifold! ![]() But NOT the design, or quality of the collector. And if I intend to build the system with V clamps, and for LM2 lambda ... |

I just put a Fabspeed RSR on my 993 engine is my '76 Carrera
It's a very nice piece of work

hi RarlyL8
What a beautiful example! I forgot to give all the information needed to properly answer my question... ![]() My car is a 1978 SC and I am rebuilding a 3.0 engine with 964 cylinder heads. (It ends up as a 3.3) Right now I have an old muffler lying around, but I don't know if it will be this one (rebuilt in terms of sound) or e.g. a Danish 2 in 2 out.... (I am not going to use the old heating system!) ![]() I imagined I could make my own spacers from manifold to muffler. and use V clamps, so that you could switch between test mufflers in the future more quickly. |

I intend to use a modern petrol heater in the smuggler's box. ![]() (and my 78' SC is so old that it doesn't need to be emissions compliant) |

This is EXACTLY what I was thinking!
My engine layout will clearly benefit from longer primaries/manifold system.... and that could actually be possible with this system ![]() Last edited by Aircooled4evr; 12-07-2022 at 06:06 AM.. |

The system I pictured previously has V-band connection at the collector outlet with custom sized secondary that connects to the custom muffler via larger diameter OE style 2-bolt flanges. That gives you the ability to easily swap out the muffler plus ads adjustability.
Length and diameters are custom per engine and chassis spec. This particular set has 1.75" primaries and a 2.5" collector reducing to 2.25" secondaries. This mates to 2.25" muffler inlets. These have 2.5" v-band secondaries mating to a high flow muffler with 2.5" inlets. The engine these were designed for requires more flow at higher RPM. ![]()

Did you do anything about the droning yet with the Fabspeed system ? I have the same setup on my 89 with a 95 3.6 and it's quite annoying on long trips.I shove a Car Chemistry twin disc insert in each tailpipe when i plan on driving far , but in the city the sound is somewhat more bearable. The fit and finish with the Fabspeed stuff was pretty good but i'd sure like to have some of Rarly's artwork on my car one day !

haven't noticed any drone though The fit and finish are exceptional, though i'd prefer black I don't like how wide the headers run, had to work it a bit to keep the oil line separated i do like the access to the engine mounted oil filter

The prices for these systems are ridiculous in europe... Far better in the states!
Unfortunately, freight + duty & VAT must be added to all of this. let me give an example. 1 piece. exhaust manifold = $1500 For you to see the situation (which is good right now): $1 = 7.06 Danish kroner. So: $1500 X 7.06 = DKK 10,590. A good rule of thumb is: Multiply $ by 10 and you have the price including shipping, duty & VAT. Now it's DKK 15000 Result: I pay (at least!) $2125…. (the price of 1500 is plucked out of thin air, and is probably higher in reality) Holy C... Our hobby has become expensive! ![]() I gee wish I lived in the states.. ![]() |
