Re- barreled 17" Fuchs- Recognize who made these?

Hi Folks,
I've got a 77 911 with Steel Turbo rear flares and OEM Turbo front flares. I'd like to go with a 17" Fuchs setup that uses a 16" Fuchs center with barrels to get the correct look and offset.
I know quite a few folks can make these, but most of them have the through studs that mount the barrel to the Fuchs front exposed in the front of the wheel.

Check out this set. It almost looks like they used a concave shaped cap of sorts to cover it?

Any ideas as to who made these, or who can make a set that looks like this?

Any thoughts and advise are appreciated!

Thanks!

Jake G

Those are cool AF, why would you change them to be like everyone else?

Edit; Misread. Those wheels are sweet.

Those are the welded variety. 16x6” centered welded into different hoops. Linsey made some (what Jack Olsen has) and I believe this multi step lip design are the ones Tru Design made. I don’t think either company are still making them but I could be wrong.

I’ve owned both - and I believe those are from Tru.

Evan, thanks! My understanding is that Tru Design is no longer in business, correct? Any suggestions or thoughts of other companies that can perform this work?

If Tru is no longer in business and Lindsay is no longer making these, an alternative would be the 3-piece wheels from Fikse. The bolts are on the "backside" of the wheel, so not visible. Plus, a more natural look (IMO) as the 5-petal design has been upsized to fit a 17" rim.

Noah, thanks! They are definitely an option. I had another member recommend Linea Corsa wheels in 17". From my research, they seem to have a great reputation on this site. Found them on eBay, need to understand their offsets and if they offer a good deep dish look for the rear (backspacing?). I need to find a few pictures of these wheels on a widebody/turbo.

To a certain extent, it comes down to how much are you willing to spend, and how much of a wheel snob are you?

At the lower end of the price spectrum, you'll have cast wheels. Those are the Linea Corsas, the Rota Foxes, the Euromeisters, and one other company whose name I can't recall but sold by a guy here on Pelican. Those are in the $1000-2000 per set range, used and new. They'll come in fairly stock offsets.

The Lindsays (when I was shopping about 10-15 years ago) and the TruDesigns were about $2700, plus you supplied the 16" donor wheels. I don't know what time/inflation/pandemic pricing has done to that estimate, though.
As pointed out above, I don't even know if those companies are around and making wheels anymore.

And at the upper end of the spectrum are now the Fikses. Those will be fully custom for offsets/backspacing/widths. They're forged aluminum centers. They're 3-piece designs. The bolts are hidden on the backsides of the wheel centers. And those are something like $8K per set. But that's the price for perfection, I suppose.

Another option is Braid. They're a lot more affordable than the Fikses. They come in a bunch of different sizes. But somehow, IMO, they don't have a nice a look as the Fikses. The edges/step-offs/shouders are a little harder. The profile is a little "flatter."

^ great breakdown. I picked up my Euromeisters for $150 a wheel in 2013 or so, that price didn't last long.

Honestly w those prices I'd be looking hard at the Fifteen52 line.

I wonder if increasing the scale equally, including the center daisy, would look good?

Wonder no more. The Fikse version of the 17” Fuchs has the most faithful proportions to the original. They are the wheels Singer uses.

I struggle to call the pics in the OP ‘the correct look’.
All that effort to keep the original center has created a stepped monstrocity, imo.
I agree with Evan in his post above.

Noah, great points. Agreed, Fikse would be the ultimate. It then brings into the question of how much do I sink into this build and whether this is a forever car or a 'right now' car. Considering the ADD that inflicts a few of us, me included, it might be a latter of the 2. All great options, thanks!

Hmmm... Good question. I think some of these brands do 'stretch' the petals. Question is to find a company that does it right; which I think is Fikse..

True. I've seen them on a Singer and they are absolutely perfect. Is my 77 a Singer? No.. Not even close. So do I fork out perfection money on a non perfect car? That's the conundrum.. Where is the compromise, or is there?

I would have to partially agree. This car is local and I've seen it in person multiple times. In person, the 'steps' in the barrels isn't as jarring as in the pictures.. Still though... Good point you're making..

fuchs look

For the record, Fikse 3 pc Fuchs looking wheels that Singer uses are 18s, not 17s.
They drill and tap the center and have the bolts come in from behind. The older Fikse wheels 16,17,18 use a fine thread 1/4 - 28 whichis a little dodgey and not as strong as other fastener choices. Not certain what they use on those Singer 18sand Singer does their own finishing on them .

The DSL with the Centerlocks I think is on 18s but the “original” Singer is definitely on 17s.
