6 x 15" Fuchs differences
Most of us are aware of the difference(s) between the early 'deep dish' version (designed originally to be equipped with tubed tyres) & the later 'flat face' (tubeless) variety but today whilst I was sorting through my 'stock' of Fuchs I noticed something that I hadn't realised before.
There is a difference between early & late 'flat face' 6 x 15" Fuchs wheels - the earlier version has a smaller diameter hole in the centre of the wheel to accept the 3-pronged centre cap: ![]() whereas the opening in the later wheels is of a larger diameter to coincide with the later centre cap style: ![]() I had previously thought that the earlier 3-pronged centre caps only fitted the deep dish wheels & that the style of cap changed at the same time as the switch to the 'flat face' wheel. The part number for the wheel changed to reflect the alteration to the centre opening with the earler wheel being: 911 361 020 00 & the later version being: 911 361 020 10. I don't know when the change to the centre of the 'flat face' wheel took place but I have one dated '73 that has the smaller hole & some dated '76 that have the larger opening so the change occurred somewhere between '73 & '76. Andy,
My best SWAG [Scientific Wild A$$ Guess] wouild be that the change occured in late 1973 for the '74 production models ... though it isn't documented in the factory service manuals!
