Newbie '83 911sc: questions?
Questions:
1. What is this? Please suggest what to install. 2. How do you shut off cold air coming out of the front window vent? ![]() |

1. If you look at some of the older cars, they've got a little badge that says the size of their engine (2.7, 2.4, 2.2, etc.) However, to the best of my knowledge, they never had 3.0 badges on SCs. It could be that your grill is from an older car that had one of the badges installed - that's why your grill looks like that.
2. I'm not sure what your dash looks like, but on my heater controls, there are two knobs on the top row, one in the middle row, and one on the bottom row. The left knob on the top row controls the fresh air - if you move it all the way to the left, it will close the fresh air coming into the car. The right knob controls the fan. Some cars only have one knob on the top row - I believe moving it to the left will prevent cold air from coming in. Check your owners manual.

Thanks for your reply. The white knob on the grill has what looks like a electrical wiring going to the engine compartment. Do you know what that is?

I would tend to believe the third brakelight theory.
Where are you located? It might be someone could swing by and take a look at the vents for you. I would also suggest locating a copy of Wayne's books, the Bentley Manual, and (gasp) the dreaded Haynes manual. If you find a set of factory manuals they would be useful but are fairly expensive.

From your picture, it's tough to tell where the gap in your grill is - is it in the middle, or nearer to the right side. If it's in the middle, it probably was, at one time, a mounting location for a third brake light, as the others have suggested.

PCA Logo, Maybe
I have an 82 SC I bought a few months ago... it has a faded PCA logo in that spot. You can see an image of it here.

Hi Doug. The window vent is turned off by twisting it sideways. It's a directional thing that diverts the air at or away from the driver.
I agree the bit on the Grill is from a 3rd brakelight that's been removed at some stage. Grills are expensive so an easy solution may be to fit a 3rd brake light (and wire it in) just to fill the space. And welcome to the world of 911s Bill 911SC |
