1987 911 Brake pedal much higher than clutch and gas - is that normal?

On my '87 with a G50, my brake pedal is much higher / further out than either my clutch or my gas. It has always been this way. I've owned the car for about 7 years now.

These days I drive it less, mostly DEs and special occasions. Last weekend I installed a set of Rennline pedals which look pretty sweet, but made me remember/realize just how exaggerated the situation is. With and adjustable gas pedal, I can "make up for" a lot of the difference, but I don't know if there is anything else I can do about the brake/clutch disparity.

Is this normal? Can I adjust the brake pedal to be further back? Let me clarify that everything apparently functioning normally, I've driven it this way for many years, done DEs, etc.

You probably found that the brake pedal was better when higher relative to the gas when you were driving on the track and blipping the throttle on downshifts. Most people who want to change that just use a block of wood on the throttle. I don't hear about the clutch being too low very often, maybe some sort of spacer would work there as well.

No that is not normal, my buddy's 87 has the same issue. Your hydrolic clutch pedal has an eccentric that can be adjusted up. If you have a Bentley it will show how to adjust it.

The pedal should be the same height as the brake pedal.

You can adjust the height of the brake pedal. There is a push rod behind the pedal, just loosen the lock nut and twist the push rod.

Brake pedal looks right, don't lower it or you may run out of travel when you need it most....

Clutch pedal looks low.

Bleed and adjust.

yes - the brake pedal adjusts easily - and I recommend you take some of the travel out for track days.

#1 adjust your gas pedal out as far as you can.

#2 take off pedal covers and remove foot board

There you will find a brake shaft that goes up to the pedal booster.

uncrack the two nuts that stop adjustment.

Adjust the brake pedal (by turning clockwise/counter clockwise you can see where the pedal moves in proximity to the other pedals)

Then retorque the limiting nuts - then test drive.

when you put the brake on HARD it should be about even with the gas pedal - in you case I think the clutch looks to be too low but camera angle can make things look funny...

maybe now that I think of it that all looks horrible and you should go back to stock and send all those bits from Rennline to me

+1 This is Proper

In fact, I bet you can pull on the clutch pedal by hand or foot to raise it, right? At stops, my buddy used his foot to raise it manually and did it for a quite a long time before we fixed it.

After reading the last two posts I was convinced that maybe my clutch pedal was mushy/not returning to full height and I just didn't notice. But I just went out and tested and sure enough as I remembered, engagement is almost immediate, the clutch pedal returns to the same place every time, and I can't pull it up.

Same is true of the brakes. The pedal just returns much more. See the video here:

YouTube - Brake and Clutch Pedal Height Difference

So....do I adjust the brake as outlined by JeremyD?

You can always adjust it back - little drama. I could not heal and toe the way mine was on my old 1987 cab.

It took me a few times adjusting to get it perfect. My street driving adjustment was enough - you end up getting on the brakes much harder at the track than you'd even think about doing on the street.
