Meeting Fred Apgar for the first time.........
It’s a sad day for this community with the passing of Fred, a friend and mentor. Six (6) years ago before Carol and Fred moved back from Costa Rica to Pinehurst, NC, he came to visit me at my dingy work place and later talked about Porsche and CIS in general.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1671285653.jpg In September 2021, Fred voluntarily offered to be our guest instructor for the 2021 Engine Rebuilding Workshop. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1671288226.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1671288226.jpg We will miss you Fred. RIP. Tony |
Best memories, thank you. Ciao

Could the moderator/s move this thread to the 911 Technical Forum section where Fred usually spent his time rather than at the Classified Section? Thanks.

Fred
Fred was a really good guy with alot of mechanical knowledge in the Porsche air-cooled arena . We did alot of business over the years and I really enjoyed his personality . He was no BS artist and told ya straight what it was . A Rebel to the end . Rest In Peace Fred

RIP Fred

My grandmother always told me that when an old person dies a library burns to the ground.
Fred was a tremendous Porsche library. I am sad. |
Sorry to hear this. RIP Fred.

So sad, what a great guy

Oh no!
My condolences to Fred's family. I didn't know Fred but gleaned some good knowledge from his posts here. |
My condolences to Fred's family. I didn't know him and never met him, but last year when I needed to locate an IMS cover for my 66 911 engine. Fred reached out to me and not only had one, HE WOULDN'T TAKE ANYTHING FOR IT!! I covered the shipping. He just wanted me to help someone else out if I could down the road. He was what everyone on this forum should try to be.
Thank you, Fred my engine is back from the builder and I wish you could have heard it sing!! Joe D |
My condolences to Fred's family and friends. Rest in Peace Fred, you will be missed!

I haven’t logged on for several days. Such a bummer to read this news.
As others have pointed out, Fred was a no BS, super knowledgeable class act. Several years ago I posted a WTB add for a set of twin plugged cylinders for my 930. Another member scooped on a set from a responder. Fred saw this and contacted me to lmk he had a fresh set. He PMd me his number in Costa Rica and we talked Porsche’s for over an hour. At the end of our conversation he invited me down for holiday. Unbelievable act of kindness. He’ll definitely be missed. Ciao Fred |
Aloha Fred, a hui hou.

RIP Fred, and condolences to his family. He was a good man who was honorable and kind. This community will miss you.

I haven’t been on the forum in a very long time and logged in for a reply to someone, seeing this thread at the top of the post list. :( Very saddened to see this news. Fred was a great guy with incredible knowledge. Always willing to share his knowledge and also willing to listen & learn new things people had to share.
RIP Fred and my condolences to his wife Carol and others who know and love him |
Rest in Peace.
