Tach Lights Out (But Rest of it Works)

1983 SC.

Another electrical issue unrelated to my other recent post. Tach illumination lights were out, so I upgraded to LED's thinking it was a bad bulb and wanted them all brighter anyways. Put the new LEDs in, and all but the tach look great which is still out unfortunately.

Due to clearance issues, I wasn't able to pull the tach fully out but I was still able to swap out the bulbs (after some frustration). The tach itself still works, but the illumination lights are out and now the high beam indicator is out as well (that bulb was also replaced).

I have have seen the "tach bounce" come and go for the year I've owned the car, so I don't know if that just fried something inside the tach itself which knocked out the lights. Bouncing hasn't occurred lately, which I don't know if its related to the fact I've had it on a battery tender and tried to drive it more often.

So, bad ground, something fried inside the tach? Or something else? Any help would be appreciated. I realize I don't need the illumination lights to drive and truthfully, don't drive it much at night, but I put in new LEDs and now I want them all to work. Thanks.

John beat me to it. I'd try a jumper between the ground pin on the gauge and the body somewhere. Then, i'd try the body of the gauge to ground too.

The two threads below may help you with info on the flasher/relay/tach lights that I had a issue with at one time.
