Kaylas CrAzY 911S BARN FIND - The Preposterous Porsche!
New to the forum and wanted to share my NEW and FIRST 1970 911S barn find restoration project! The preposterous Porsche!
I bought this at a steal of a price - steal in the sense it came with some snags aha and yet some beautiful surprises in-between. The previous owner must have been EXTREMELY eccentric because he hand painted EVERYTHING with red and gold paint including the suspension, entire oil system, brakes, rotors, etc! He also put about 100 pounds of stereo gear in this car AND "welded" on the body kit with industrial silicone. If that didn't sound busy enough he handmade and laminated stickers that he put throughout the car including each wheel well. THE GOOD NEWS SO FAR: Recaro seats, bbs wheels, & the paint seems to have preserved the body from rust! I am updating the thread here and I will be filming the restoration for my YouTube channel for people to follow the journey! Completely new to restoring a Porsche! Tips, tricks, and info appreciated! a good cleaning to start then change all the fluids and the belt and filters do a leak down to see how the combustion chambers are holding up how old are those tires? look for tears in the ball joint and axel boots inspect brake pads and check the wheel bearings I would get it running and put a few hundred miles on it to see how much I liked driving it wear ear plugs when driving it keep a spare belt, fuel pump relay, tire plug kit and pump and some tools in the car |

The video of this car (thecargirl) is posted in another thread:
This is the WIERDEST, craziest Porsche 911 Barn Find You'll Ever See!! No engine or transmission, correct? Considering what was done to the electrical system to support the stereo project perhaps starting from scratch electrically would be better than fixing bugs. Several threads in the forum on electrical ghosts of alarm systems (stereo, aftermarket cruise control etc...) haunting cars in very unpredictable manner - to be avoided if possible. Not sure what you plan on putting in the engine bay, just an FYI that there is another part of the forum you may want to poke around in. Porsche Engine Conversion Tech Forum In general on these cars the more affordable performance gains are in weight reduction verses adding horsepower (less is more). Both can be expensive, and both can have bang for buck value routes. Of course engine swaps are another matter, and if starting from scratch with a blank piece of paper and maybe a checkbook many options out there. You may want to check this other part of the forum every day (bargains snapped up quickly, seen under 1 hour), for both selling and finding what you want/need: Porsche 911 Used Parts For Sale & Wanted Usually people state a mission goal for their project, a concept that is usually filled with a path of discovery and mind changing. What is it you want? Originality? Uniqueness? Performance? Just something you can afford and have fun with? If you are keeping those chemically welded body kit pieces on, a look at another car with a wild look may be an inspiration (should have HP to match looks). 1986 Porsche 930 Turbo D-Zug Projekt Mjølner For Sale https://blog.dupontregistry.com/porsche/1986-porsche-930-turbo-d-zug-projekt-mjolner-for-sale/ ![]() Maybe D-Zug's project wasn't everyone's cup of tea, but it was well done in my opinion, just over the top and not my personal style, but to be appreciated. If you do go the light weight/performance path, those Recaro seats (40lbs each?) might help finance other parts of the car. Replace 80lbs of seats with 40lbs of seats and save 40lbs. Rule of thumb -10lbs = +1HP this means seat of the pants 4HP gain. I'm getting a pair low cost (low weight) race style seats from Poland in a couple of months, will be posting a review on them, $600 delivered. I don't know if your seats per pair are worth $500 or $5,000 but you should find out eventually and decide if they are to stay or be cashed out. This game is like going to the grocery store, save 5-cents here, 10-cents there plus a few coupons and you just saved $20 bucks (or 20lbs) at the checkout line.

Welcome to the crazy air cooled 911 ownership world. It can be an adventure, your project certainly looks like it will be all that and a wild ride. To kach22i's point above, what is your vision/plan for the car?
Good luck and keep us posted with regular updates! Dennis

Congratulations on what appears to be an early 911S. I will guess 70-71. Great Find!
Tell tale signs. early battery boxes holding up horns 7300rpm 911S tach and factory oil console with included hard lines for front oil cooler. Lots of different directions you could go from here.

Kayla,
Welcome to the board! Big project ahead of you, it's your car to do what you want with, don't let people try to talk you down some weird project path. But - keep in mind that stock and original cars appeal to the widest audience when it comes time to sell and recoup some of your investment. You'll find that Porsche parts can be expensive(!). There is a used 911 parts section (classifieds) here which can save some money. Best of luck going forward and this forum loves progress pictures.

I've read two comments about possibly removing the one-piece front end, but that is only one prospect.
I'm from the school of thought that says if it's not broken don't fix it. I'd keep the body work, do a light weight interior and get a non-Porsche power plant in there. I certainly expect this to be the minority opinion, which is why I suggested visiting the Porsche Engine Conversion Tech Forum for a more receptive audience. Should you go this route, you will not have a Porsche and or Porsche experience, it's just the truth, sorry. Do you want a real Porsche or are you willing to accept a Franken-Porsche? Heck these days you can even go electric and surely displease many here. Only you can answer the question of what it will be. EDIT: Yesterday - sale pending after just 2.5 hours in the classified. 3.2 engine for sale 3.2 engine for sale Quote:

Congrats and have some fun!
At the very least, you have a very valuable VIN number, assuming its for a 70-71 911S as others have mentioned

Something else to keep in mind: Many people who strip out these cars rip out a lot of sound deadening and insulation, your car may have much of it already gone.
If you're looking for the lightest weight and don't mind a noisy car then just put minimal insulation back in. A lightweight car is a blast to drive. However if you're looking to take the car on some longer drives and/or have some friends along you'll want to have all the factory (or modern equivalent) sound insulation in place. It does make a difference.
