Airbox not lining up with AFM

So I’m starting some winter projects on my 88 carrera. Purchased an air flow meter and new airbox but they do not line up when trying to put them in place. What am I missing here? Is there a part that’s needs adjusted? Anyone else experience this?

I recently had mine apart doing the AFM wiper arm "adjustment". I attached my AFM to the airbox first and then put back the car as one unit. Have you tried it that way?

I did try that first, but then the AFM would not line up with the opening it goes into (sitting too high) . I feel like theres something around the intake manifold thats causing the airbox to not line up right. But I was able to bolt the one screw attaching the airbox to the manifold you can see in the last 2 photos. Weird

Problem solved. I’m an idiot. There was one more bolt hiding behind the intake Manifold
that needed unscrewed which allowed the box to be seated properly.

I do have one more question though , is this hook up correct for the AFM. Seems much longer than other pics I have seen . was unable to get it attached first time I tried plugging it in.

Thank you. It still has a red wire attached to it so I cannot remove the after market extension from the car completely. Don’t know if that wire is important , I will have to dig further to figure out where it goes.

Here is where the red wire ends up. Not sure how to remove as it’s attached to another connector. Any idea what the wire is for?

Ok getting close to finishing this job. I think this is the vacuum hose to the carbon canister (correct me if I’m wrong) is the black nipple on the end of the hose correct? , does the hose attach to the back of the airbox? (second pic behind the hole shown) . The black nipple does not feel like it will attach to the back .

FYI, I’ve never work on a car before, no shock there I’m sure.

Ok, that should be it. Found out the black nipple was not supposed to on the hose so I removed it and clamped the hose on the back of the airbox. Red wire is that’s left. Thanks guys
