Fuel line replacement - OEM. Griffiths, or...?

Hot on the tail of my pre-Parade Griffith's AC update with swiss-cheesed hoses, I'll be having the venerable John Walker replace the 38 year old fuel lines in my '85 911 before making that drive. I've seen a few engine fires lately on the 911 FB pages, and don't want to take that risk. Especially after the fuel line in my 924S disintegrated a couple years ago...

John and I discussed fuel line options yesterday. Whatever Worldpac delivers.... OEM, or something like Griffiths?
I think I've read a couple of past posts about fitment issues with some fuel lines being slightly too short, but that might have been something else I'm thinking of.

Anyone have any fitment issues with the Griffith's?

At the same time, we'll be replacing the sound pad that has finally started to disintegrate.

The obligatory pic, just because.
The bent rocker panel was also just repaired.

I'm contemplating doing the same on my '84. I overhauled my A/C system with Griffiths lines, etc. and have been pleased with the results. Are you planning to replace the tunnel lines as well?

Probably not. It'll depend on John. I'm mostly concerned with anything that could cause fire, which I don't think the tunnel lines are prone to.

At the absolute best-price factory parts supplier I can find,

930-110-411-03 Factory $148 - -- Griffiths $128

930-110-509-01 Factory - $169 Griffiths $150

930-110-595-07 Factory $589.94. Griffiths $369. ($782.50 from our host...wow)

Seems like a pretty good deal to me.

Hi WolfeMacleod- Here's a personal anecdote... Petra needed a new clutch in the Fall of 2017. As a,"while you're in there" (and on the advice of the Independent Tech) I made the mistake of sourcing a Pirtek set for her replacement fuel lines. On Spring startup in 2018, fuel started pouring from the incorrectly made J-hose and one of the connections in the back. Fun. My first call was for a flatbed, and my next call was to Charlie. As with everything Griffith makes, the complete 3.2 kit (with RH intake gaskets) is unbelievably well-built and the installation instructions are top-notch. I now rest easy knowing the fuel is where it should be, not pouring over the engine.

Here's an image of the J-hose Pirtek leak. It was really pouring when pressurized...

As an aside, I'm a big proponent of adding a PadKeeper from David Etter to any new sound pad. It really dresses up the engine bay...

Hope this helps!

+1 on Len Cummings

I replaced the full set on my 86 Targa with 140K miles 2 years ago ( fuel tank to injector rails, minus the two tunnel lines) I saw all the scary pictures of 911's going up in flames at the side of the road due to leaking fuel lines and did the full swap when I did a suspension refresh.

What made me decide on Len is that he uses Cohline 2240 hose which is fully rated for ethanol additions to gasoline required to meet the clean air act.

Every line fit perfect and fully recommend him.

If you're DIY replacing the J hose with the engine in the car, I highly recommend Len's kit. It replaces the hard line section that goes behind the manifold with flexible hose. You can leave the manifold in place and cut out the factory line.

A few weeks ago we swapped a J hose in the parking lot of Hill Country Rallye with a factory hard line hose, and let me tell you it was unpleasant.

Len or Griffith's is a matter of choice. Len is not the easiest to get hold of sometimes as he operates out of his garage, and is just running a side business. I bought his tunnel lines, and they are great.

Griffith's has the best instruction on the planet, and is a "real" business and usually very easy to deal with. I have his four condenser AC upgrade and blower, and AC controls. I love having AC that works in the hottest places.

Griffith's is fine if you just want to replace stock lines and you have an SC or later. I didn't see anything for early 911s on there. Len will do custom work so if what you want goes beyond the normal, then Len is the person to talk to.

Furthermore if your car is a midyear when they were transitioning to different fittings, he knows a ton and asks you what to measure on your car so he can make the right stuff. Everything fit perfectly, here's a video about my install:

So far I'm loving the AC upgrade we completed a couple weeks ago. I have no doubt it will handle Palm Springs.

Just got my Parade schedule sorted out an registered. I must be suicidal... I entered Casper into the Concours, street class..preservation? somethingorother...
See ya there!

I used Paul Mason lines. First class. Bullet proof, easy to talk with and discuss. Look like this.
You can check out pix...

Len made my lines and was very supportive with questions and fittings that were required. Note: anyone with a 75. The 75 is different from other years. The return line runs from the front and into the engine bay snd is quite long. Check pet for the length

Can someone describe the 911SC tunnel lines (OEM) and other viable replacements I see Len Cummings and Paul Mason mention. Can these lines be easily replaced in the tunnel while the engine is installed?

Also using mason lines. Really nice lines that are lined and everything. Kit is fool proof.
