Lowering the Engine on My 3.2

1984 3.2 targa. I have a few things I want to do , clean up engine best I can, replace sound pad and freshen engine compartment. Can I lower the engine maybe 6” without too much disconnecting of stuff to be able to have more room to work?

Also I need to do to do a leak down test. Can I do that easy enough without pulling engine. I think I’m going to end up doing wires and plugs also send out the injectors. Can this all be done engine in? I have the time to do it, no rush except the urge/want to drive it

Jim

Yes, just make sure to discounted the shift rod from the tranny so you don’t bent it.

Is there enough leeway in the fuel line? I’ll take offf air box and whatever else to make more room.
I’ll take a look at the Bently manual see what else. I should just pull the engine lol

Drop it out
Not super hard, and once you pull it, cleaning is much easier

I pulled the engine on my 69 many years ago easily several times. Sure was a lot les on the 2.0 than this 3.2
but it’s not out of the question

Partial engine drop is nice for quick access to the top. As said before, do NOT forget to undo the shift coupler. Also, nice if you don't have an engine stand/table and don't want to work on the ground.

Your initial note sounded as if project creep was perhaps going to enter into the picture? If so just go ahead and drop it. It's not that much more effort or that much quicker. And it will allow you to clean up the exterior of the engine and the engine bay.

Our host has tech articles about dropping the engine, if you want a step by step list?
