Where’s this oil coming from?!?
Hi everyone,
I’m cleaning up some things on my car and trying to chase down some oil leaks. I completely cleaned the bottom of the engine about two weeks ago. The car has been on the lift since then. Not started or moved. ![]() The oil has UV dye in it (obviously). I’ve been looking around the top of the engine but I’m not seeing anything obvious. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

cool to see the dye in action.
I'd have thougght it was a decent leak up top; breather, pressure switch, thermostat o ring?

it is always surprising how much oil can leak from the triangle of death. I am working on a 70T that developed a significant leak.......that appears to be coming from a failed engine t'stat. This is one of the early adjustable types and it looks to be leaking through he adjuster vs. the external o-ring......but the leak path is similar to what you are showing in your pic.

Probably triangle of death. Get yourself a mirror to look down at the thermostat area while shining the UV light. It'll have a healthy glow I bet.

I have to take a closer look at the triangle of death. Bit tricky to see back there...
Only thing I'm not sure about is the amount of oil that has leaked without the car being started, although I didn't clean the top of the engine so I suppose it could have migrated it's way down.

Also, if the hose is rock hard, it will leak no matter how tight you try to get the clamp. |
