stupid heater hose question

88 carrera 3.2

getting ready to put engine back in and changing heater hoses with new and they are to small. All hoses list by our host are 60mm and the mount tubes are 62mm.
Am i missing something or do you try and stretch the tubes? Have the URO paper
and foil tubes.

So I avoided pelican hoses entirely, and am using heater hoses used for diesel heater kits; this is what I'm using and I'm happy with the aesthetic, shiny black:

https://amzn.to/3nmo5pl

It says 60mm, but I was able to stretch it. My heaterboxes are aftermarket so I cut that one a couple places and clamped over it, works fine. Looks SOOOOOOO much better than stock hoses.

Paper hoses are junk, in my opinion.

I use aircraft ducting found here.
SCAT or SCEET will do you just fine.
62 mm = ~2.5 in

Just a thought -
A muffler shop or a $13 Harbor Fright exhaust pipe expander can expand the foil tube a bit.

But since it’s only a matter of 2-3mm (1/8”) maybe using the top of a FULL water bottle (or something similar) can slowly wiggle that thin aluminum foil into size just enough to get it started on the coupler, a little silicone on the coupler helps too. It’s worth a shot and the general idea is to get than extra width.

A firm plastic bottle or better yet, a glass might be best as water bottles tend to be flimsy.
You might be able to flatten the coil ridges to gain a mm, the area where the band clamp will cover anyway.

@Hermanator :
After flattening out the coiled ridges with pliers, you should be able to gain the extra width, unfortunately I can’t measure this heater tube accurately but using the glass bottle (which just so happens to be 62mm) method, it does go over and down further by almost a 1/2” when I pushed it over the bottle.
(I can’t get to my engine to make any measurement and fitment.)

Here’s what I just did, looks flat and that part will be covered by the clamp.

Additionally, I cut slits on mine around the end, to help it slip over one joint I was having trouble with. It expanded over all but one side of my heaterboxes which are aftermarket, idk.

I put a coat of epoxy on the last inch of each end to reinforce it, helps when you take them on and off from getting deformed.

^ West Marine G/Flex is a 24-hr epoxy that remains quite flexible even after it sets. Fast-set epoxies are usually brittle.

Good stuff Old H2S/Uro, would've saved me lots of time and aggravation fitting those nifty spring loaded hoses the last time I changed them.

I cut a short slit and position the slit out of view before hose clamping it.

i actually love the muted brown paper hose , and has that touch of originality . I had the shiney black in there but dumped it quickly as it looked tacky.

It should be pointed out i have a copper brown metallic car so the shiny black looked off
