Can anyone identify this CV End Cap?
The one on the left is a new Porsche end cap for a 108mm diameter CV. The one on the right was removed from the CV and I would like to replace it. The one on the right has a shorter profile and is shaped differently. The one on the right also fits into a 1969 stub axle and axle flange, the one on the left does not. 1969 did not use end caps, so I’m not sure where this older “smaller” cap came from. It’s from a 2-liter racing 911 built by Klub Sport. Any ideas?

Those caps were intended to go in 85 or later drive flanges and stub axles. Someone jammed that 85 cap and reshaped it. That cap won’t even fit in 84 turbo or turbo look flanges. If the 108 late flanges have a recess for gaskets, caps don’t fit. I’m surprised someone could get those in an early 108 flange, quite an achievement.

Thanks - this whole CV assembly is a Frankenstein and has had me baffled for a while now. 108mm with 40mm thick CV, fits to 69 stub axle and flange, 4 bolt x 2 pin, 10mm bolts, no gasket and has end cap. Lots of RTV inside of edges of cap and I think they used Krytox for lube, nothing so far cuts through it. The only ID on any of the CV’s is “Lobro 15-78” on one of them. I believe 15 represents the diameter (108), not sure about the 78. Could be the year or a series within the group 15.

They are probably 69-71 axles with the thick CV and 2 pins. 72 went to the thiner CV.

Agreed they are 69-71, but they used gaskets then not end caps. Not sure how these end caps were made to fit (or if they are from a different make of car).

I vote for smashed in to place, you can still see some of the original scallops of the cap.

I think you may be right. I have some extra caps and tried to work one today and pretty much mangled it. I'm going to give the guys at Klub Sport a call tomorrow.

A side question: I have a 1973 car with the 4-bolt and 2-pin and fiber gasket CV joints. 110mm, I think. Are there end caps available for these CV joints? I didn't find them at our sponsor.

Your CV's should be 108mm and the cap part number is 928.332.267.01, but you should check me on this, I've been confused on CV's for the better part of a month now

lv2race: Thanks. I'll check the CV joint interchangeability.
