Anyone know where this is supposed to plug into?

As I bring my new to me '81 SC out of hibernation I am starting to clean up the engine bay a bit - and I noticed this plug. It was laying down by the red square on the left side of the motor. The other end just connects to a bolt so I am thinking it is some sort of ground.

Anyone know what this is for? And yes, after the photo I spent about 30 mins removing all of the wire loom from everything!!!

Thanks in advance for any help.

Looks like the plug for the oxygen sensor. Have a look on your exhaust and see if the oxygen sensor is unplugged

most of the 911 models around the whole world do not use this at all it takes power off. It is for smog test..purposes..unless you are in CA no need for it..i see in your case you have already some modifications done to your engine..

Strange Looking WUR………..

Maverck,

What is the Bosch ID # (1-438-140-XYZ) on your WUR? It looks different than I see on SC’s. Thanks.

To be honest no idea! The car is newer to me and my first air cooled. In the early stages of sorting and figuring out what the previous owners have done.

It’s worth following up on Tony’s question as he knows WURs as well as anyone and it may help the car run better

Maverck, look on the top of the WUR, just to the left of the vacuum hose going out the top. There should be 3 digits stamped there, something like 045, or 033, or 089, or some such.

Nope……..

086/980 is the cast #, right above the cast # are the last 3 digits (stamped). Use a wire brush to clean the surface area and read the numbers (0 483 140 XYZ). Keep us posted. Thanks.

Maverck,

If your car is an ‘81 SC US spec with lambda/OXS, the correct WUR is -090. The WUR-033 will not prevent it from RUNNING but will NEVER make it run well. I could lend you a WUR-090 that you could test on your car without any obligation to purchase. You could send it back to me if you are NOT fully satisfied. No question asked.

I have provided hundreds of these WUR’s to fellow Pelicanparts members with amazing success and counting. PM me if you are interested. Thanks.

Maverck: someone may have put in an 033 instead of the 090 when they disconnected the oxygen sensor. Maybe they were having problems with the OXS lambda system and decided to bypass it.

Wur-090…….

Brian,

The WUR-090 that I sent to you will WORK, provided you have the the enrichment components for the lambda system all good and working. Check the following:
  • OXS
  • FV
  • Frequency valve relay.
  • 15° throttle switch.
  • 15°C and 35°C Temperature Switches.
  • ECU
  • Etc.

The WUR-033 you have now will not prevent the engine from starting but will NEVER run well. Where is the rubber hose from the side of the WUR-033 connected to? A picture would be helpful. Thanks.

I have an '86. Can you explain why you prefer not to have the sensor plugged in?

Not just for CA.

The lambda system makes the engine run better in "cruise" mode, for lack of a better word, and longer due to improved fueling with a closed loop feedback control system which is disabled by the throttle switch when the lead foot is applied.
