911SC headlights

I am trying to find what the correct headlight cover for my ‘83 SC, the sugar scoop or the the ring? In researching all the reference material I have, it shows ‘83SC with both. Any thought would be appreciated.
Thank You!

I’d go for H4 headlights. (If you want to keep it stock)
No sugar scoops.
But it’s a personal choice, really.

So many SC’s have been converted. But in the US, I think they were all sugar scoops. Only legal option.

Euro’s were more likely to have the H4’s.

I agree with Mark, I believe sugar scoops were the original headlights for a US 83 SC.

Conversion to the later/Euro versions was a trend.

Personal preference, I have no problem with the originals.

Thanks for all the responses! I would like to keep the car as original as possible, so now I have to find a pair of sugar scoop covers and have then finished in the Ruby Red Metallic of the car!

I vote for the original look of sugar scoops!

GH85Carrera, thanks for the picture! Does anyone know what year the sugar scoops were discontinued?

I believe it was 1987, which used the H5

One "funny thing" about the sugar scoops, they are identical, and can be used for left or right side. Both of them have the adjustment grommet on the same spot on the trim ring.

And it is way easier to remove the trim ring entirely if you are aiming the headlights, and just reinstall them after aiming.

Chances are someone has them in that exact same color, post a WTB in the used parts forum but I thought it would have been orange you're looking for.

Trueorange -- for the best of both worlds (originality and GOOD lighting), add a set of 7inch E-code (eurospec) H4 headlight inserts. The US-mandated sealed beam headlights that came with the sugarscoops are pretty poor compared to modern headlights, while the E-codes (once properly aimed) give modern headlights a run for their money. Also, regardless of which direction you go, add headlight relays (search the forum for "headlight relays" for more info)

These are supposed to be top-notch (see, e.g. https://www.danielsternlighting.com/products/products.html) and available at a great discount here. https://www.busdepot.com/h6024.

Personally i like the sugar scoops too .but i do like the H5.as well. And for the sugar scoops i use Hella H4 -sealed beam look alike ...i like the S.scoops because it makes the fender look longer,The H5 i like ,it makes the 911 look newer...
