Frunk Light Mount Location

Ordered a new frunk light to go in the empty cavity where one should be in my '87 Coupe. Wires are there and both functioning properly, so piece of cake, right?

Well...the light housing and the hole don't match up and there's only one screw hole. The light housing is much bigger than the existing hole. I know my hood has been painted and it seems that it may have been replaced as well.

Any thoughts on potential remedies? And why the hood doesn't have the correct mount?

pelican indicates the shape/design changed for '84 and later 911s -- see https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_Info/99763220100.htm?pn=997-632-201-00-OEM&gclid=Cj0KCQjwsIejBhDOARIsANYqkD04qQ1B63m8CCS5Ryui llsejIm6OHmNTL4VudLKSKBL55RGNEI7hawaArGvEALw_wcB

The light that I bought is that first one. Before buying I also did some under-hood stalking of '87's on BaT and the light I have matches what's on other '87s. See below for a screen grab from an '87 frunk light...looks just like what I have, which is why I'm wondering what hood is on my car.

The front trunk light is the same from 74-89. The brackets on the lens that holds the light assembly should measure 1.96 inches. If you never had a light assembly there when you acquired the car then someone else realized the problem and left it. If it were me I’d measure what the hole should be which is the dimensions I gave you. Tape the perimeter, get out my dremel and a drill for the second hole and go to work.

My 84 has the bubble frunk light. Is that sticker a VIN sticker on the hood? Is it your VIN.

Just measured and my opening is 1-3/4 x 15/16, so definitely needs to be opened up.

That last image isn't from my car. My car does not have a sticker in that location.

FYI, when I replaced the light bulb with a brighter LED bulb on my 1973, I also bent up a small reflector out of thin aluminum flashing to go over the bulb and reflect more of the light back down into the frunk, instead of up into the backside of the hood. It helps.

Took your advice an ran with it. Not going to win any metal cutting awards but it’s all hidden behind that nicely functioning light. Thanks for the help everyone.
