Correct 73 RS rear flares
Who makes the most accurate rear metal 73 RS flare?
wanted the exact 73 RS look with the slightly taller upper lip of the flare and the squarish arch as was OEM in 73. Does anyone have the exact position to butt weld them? |

I got real 73 RS quarter panels with the correct flares from Porsche but I was unable to buy the 73 RS flares separately from them. They only had SC flares separately so ended up buying complete quarter panels to get the correct 73 RS flares. That was about 8 years ago.

Part number for right side is 91150304600
It looks like part is now over 6k per side. Not sure of left side number but you can get through Porsche. These rear quarter panels use the thinner gauge steel so it will be slightly lighter than modifying a 69-73 panel by welding flares. For me this was a better way to go. |

I have a set of factory RS flares I bought years ago that I might consider selling. No idea on price but PM me if you're interested.

How many people can tell the difference between '73 RS flares and SC flares? Worth $12,700 if you do your own work?

Pffft. That's for the heavy version. If you're going to go all the way, go for the lightweight version, 91150304601GRV:

The flare shape looks great, though. Pic from the Porsche classic site.

I looked up what I paid in early 2014 and it was $2,038 per side for light weight version so prices more than tripled.

You can buy just the flares from Porsche I just did it. Also, the Dansk are good. The Porsche ones are thinner. I actually like the Dansk flares as they're the same thickness as the car you're going to be welding them to. If you needed to replace your entire quarters and had the money than sure do the whole quarters but it's a lot more work and if your quarters are good it would be crazy to do that IMO. If you properly butt weld the flares on it will be good for life. It's no small task to replace quarters on a 911. If they're rusted or damaged then you might want to go that route. I think Porsche is just crazy with the pricing on the RS sheet metal they're selling.

I'm in the camp of using the Dansk ones. They are excellent quality and match exactly to the factory except for maybe the thickness like Scott mentions. You can pick them up on Partgeek for like $1200 for a set which is super reasonable. I put some on my '74 2 years ago.

can you post photos of the upper lip of the flares you installed? When I looked at the dansk site- they list the flares as SC, which should mean the upper lip is narrow. Thats what prompted me to post the question. Thanks everyone for your comments and PMs |

Can someone clarify what it means when they mention "8 inch" or some other measurement in reference to the fender flare? Is this how far out it goes, or a reference to the wheel size? I have never understood that.
