Yet another idle question (sort of)
I've noticed recently that the first one or two times I stop the car stalls. Watching the tach after that, it seems that when I come to a stop (clutch in) the revs drop well below idle and then pick up to a relatively steady 750 or so-but they seem to drop all the way to 3-400 before "catching". It seems that the first couple of stops this "catch" doesn't occur. This isn't all the time, maybe 50% or so.
Any ideas. PS-put a Seine gateshift in the car today. Easy install, shifts nicely, the gate is certainly peace of mind. |

what year/engine? Sounds similar to my problem (although mine swings higher than 750).

Relatively similar to what I've been going and have "solved" or at least isolated on my 86. Drove me nuts and also to avoid driving the car.
We have the same motronic system. I tried/tested a multitude of things. There are lots of posts on the subject. Try search on 'idle' and/or 'stalling'. In my case, and per my non-expert diagnosis, it appears that my airflow meter had become what I'd call 'lazy' over 17 yrs and the clock spring had lost a bit of its tension, causing an overall over-rich condition. It in the original AFM. I was experiencing quite a bit of fluctuation in the idle and stalling much the same as you with the idle dipping too low and not recovering. I set the switch in the DME to position 3, which leans the overall mixture by 2% - 3% without affecting the timing. This 'cured' all the issued the car was having. I consider this a stopgap cure and will be working on refurbishing the AFM to get the car to run right without the DME correction. But, for now, I am satisfied I have identified the need. todd =-=-=-=-=-=- 86 cpe |
