AC Hose source

Fixing the climate is one of the tasks for my 86 coupe. What looks like the stock system has been converted to 134. It cooled a very little when I got the car a couple of years ago so I think the compressor works or at least did then.

I went to draw vacuum on the AC and couldn't. One of the hoses is dry rotted so I'm going to start by replacing all. Griffiths has a set of stock barrier hoses for ~$700.

What other options are there for decent quality that fit. They seem to be what pops up most frequently but it may simply Professor Googles algorithm trying to sell me something.

Here are a couple of pics of the car. I'll get some of the hose when I get it back up in the air.

Griffiths is where it’s at. My SC has Griffiths barrier hoses and hasn’t needed a recharge in the eight years I’ve owned it. Trying to save vs. $700 is likely a false economy.
Best of luck, John

Yea, I go for 5 or 6 years at a time with no recharging with my Griffith's set of hoses.

The other option, is to remove all the hoses and take them to a local hose or AC company that you trust and have them replace the rubber hoses. I did that on my El Camino, but the hoses are right on top and simple to replace. We have a local auto AC store that has parts and services like that.

For my 911, I used the old hoses to pull the new ones through the tight places. Be sure to cap off the hoses! It has been 11 or 12 years since I replaced my 911 hoses, and I think Charlie provided plugs for the hoses. I just don't remember, and I have no idea if he still does provide the plugs. His product line is all top notch.

Gates manufactures excellent a/c hoses. You can either buy a crimper or have shop do it.
Griffiths are a good turnkey alternative if you don't want to bother.
You'll be surprised the difference a new compressor will make.

Another very satisfied user of Griffiths produces. I replaced all of my hoses with Grif-supplied barrier hoses and while it was quite a job, it was well worth it.

If you remove and measure all your stock hoses you could order from www.coldhose.com.
You might save a little bit but probably not enough to offset the time.

Thanks, I'll probably go with Griffiths. There are many projects in the shop. The good news is I finally have a great place to work including a 2-post commercial lift.

I put the car on it for the 1st time and am very happy there isn't significant rust. Im hesitant to call any older car "rust free" but nothing is obvious.

It’s super easy to make your own if you buy a crimping tool. I custom made all of my hoses because I hung a few extra condensers to make the AC more efficient.

Do you have any idea how much hose you needed? Are the 911 hoses standard siz(es)? I have some old Mercedes and a 78 Datsun Z that could use a refresh if I ever get to them.

I have no personal experience with them, but this place came recommended by several people when I asked about refitting AC to my E12 on a BMW forum:
